Summary:: Due to Oreo Cakester fearfulness and allowing minimal handling a handling assessment will not be conducted at this time.
Summary (6):: 3/29/26: Oreo Cakester is at the front of the kennel standing with a neutral frame as the handler approaches and is leashed with ease. He will come out of the kennel quickly and will walk on a loose leash throughout the walk, sniffing the ground. When in the play yard, Oreo Cakester will lean into contact. Upon reaching his kennel room, he will begin to thrash so the handler gives him a moment and will exit the room with him. He will ignore treats so the handler will try to use leash pressure to guide him into the kennel but Oreo Cakester will firmly plant and then jump up snapping high on the leash and when stiff armed will snap the air near the handler's leg. He is once again given a moment outside the kennel room and a second handler will come out with a belly band. Oreo Cakester will thrash when attempted to be guided into kennel with the belly band and leash, snapping at the leash again. The handler will then take him into the behavior office and will walk around with the handler on a loose leash occasionally looking up to the handler with slight whale eye. He will go up to another staff member in the room to sniff them. The handler will then give the leash to the second handler who will muscle Oreo Cakester into a new kennel. He is secured safely.

When a familiar handler enters the room, he is comfortable approaching the handler with a wagging tail and accepts petting. When attempting to collar him he becomes tense and walks away from the handler. He then re-approaches and leans in for petting again. He is then able to be collared. When returning back to his kennel, he quickly jumps up and thrashes on the leash. He then grabs the handler's leg with his paws from behind them and then has to be quickly be muscled inside. He jumps up at the door and paws at it as the handler locks it and walks away after retrieving their leash with a hook. 3/26/26: Oreo Cakester is siting at the front of his kennel with a tense body as handler approaches. He retreats to the back of his kennel as the handler unlocks the door. He has no interest in treats. He begins to growl and lower his body while on his bed as the handler presents their leash. He begins to snap at the leash as the handler attempts to leash him. The handler then closes the door and he comes back towards the front. The handler is then able to leash him as he lowers his head down to the ground and tries step out of kennel. Once leashed, he is then taken to the behavior room. Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Low threshold for arousal
Potential challenges comments:: Low threshold for arousal/Fearful/potential for defensive aggression:In the prior home Oreo Cakester is noted to lunge/snap at childern in the home. He is noted to growl and show teeth at new people. These behaviors have been reflected in the care center, Oreo Cakester is noted to thrash on the leash and snap towards it. he is noted to flinch when he heard dogs barking loudly outside of the door.Training should focus on slow, predictable handling, maintaining safe distances from triggers, and reinforcing calm behaviors at low arousal levels to reduce defensive escalation. Please see the handout on arousal and Fearful/potential for defensive aggression. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration:He is known to be reactive while on walks and will lunge at skateboards. Training should emphasize increasing distance from triggers, building handler focus through high-value reinforcement, and practicing structured, controlled exposure to reduce his reactivity. Please see the handout On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.
