Pre-Screener Form Ms.Frizzle is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Ms.Frizzle displays intermittent leash biting during walks and quickly resumes the behavior when not continuously redirected with treats, making it difficult to walk her safely at times. Ms. Frizzle can be redirected with food and is highly social with staff, but struggling to acclimate in the care center. Medically, Ms. Frizzle has moderate dental disease. Ms. Frizzle came into the care center as a stray; his behavioral history in a home environment is unknown. In the care center, Ms. Frizzle has struggled to adjust to the care center environment. Ms. Frizzle is noted to leash bite during her walks and has difficulty refocusing. In a calmer environment, she is noted to display a loose wiggly body and will approach a handler for attetion. She is noted to engage with toys and snuffle mats. The behavioral department recommends Ms. Frizzle be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Ms. Frizzle to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; force-free, reward-based training only is advised when introducing Ms. Frizzle to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Ms. Frizzle presents with outside of the care centers.

Ms Frizzle had a tense body but was easily leashed and walked into the care center. She would occasionally stop when a loud noise would pass by and remained quiet during intake. She allowed to be scanned for a microchip.

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 02/28/26 Ms Frizzle is introduced to a novel male while off leash. She approaches with a loose wagging tail, sniffing the male through the gate. She remains at the gate for a minute after the male disengages before walking away to explore the yard. She readily returns with a loose frame when called but the male quickly disengages.

Summary (6):: 4/1/26: Ms. Frizzle is reported to be leash biting throughout the walk, biting up the leash. Canine rep handler had to distract her with treats, tossing one after the other. If treats were slow, Ms. Frizzle will start biting up the leash again. 3/29/26: Ms. Frizzle is laying down on her bed as handler approaches. She comes forward to the front with a loose body and is able to be leashed with ease. She is then taken outside for a walk. On the walk, she has a loose and wiggly body as she walks next to the handler. She would lean into the handler to receive pets with a wagging tail. She would sit to receive treats and had no reactions to dogs or people. She approaches a familiar volunteer that was in the hallway while on the way back to her kennel with a loose and wiggly body to receive pets and treats. She is then brought back to her kennel with no issues. 03/28/26 (Trainer Note): Ms Frizzle is sitting in her kennel with a neutral body as the handler approaches. She is easily leashed and pulls moderately to the canine training room. She is loose and social with the handlers, leaning into contact. The handler works with her on responding to the "out" cue. Ms Frizzle drops the toys readily. She is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue. 03/12/26 (Trainer Note): Ms. Frizzle is sitting in her crate as the handler approaches. She is easily leashed and pulls moderately to the canine training room. Ms. Frizzle is loose and social with the handlers, leaning into contact. The handler works with her on trading one toy for another and she participates readily. She is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue. 3/3/26: Ms. Frizzle is at the front of her crate as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and brought to the behavior office where her collar is clipped with a drag leash and given a toy. She will toss the toy around, chasing it and shaking it. Occasionally, Ms. Frizzle will engage with the snuffle mat but will then go back to playing with her toys. At the end of the session, Ms. Frizzle will readily trade the toy for treats and is leashed with ease. She is returned to her crate with no issue and is secured safely.

Summary (7):: 2/28/26: Ms. Frizzle is siting in her crate as handler approaches. She is able to be leashed with ease and is then taken to the play yard for play group. In the yard, she has loose a and wiggly body and wagging tail as she greets the other dog at the gate. Please see dog to dog notes for more details. She is able to return back to her kennel with no issues. 2/27/26: Ms Frizzle's harness was observed to be almost around her waist, and being walked by an ACS like that. Another staff member told the ACS to not walk her on that due to it almost being off her. Ms Frizzle was leash biting, and biting at the harness, shaking it in the hallway but was able to be leashed normally in the hallway and taken on a walk. 02/12/26: Ms. Frizzle exhibited repeated leash biting then stopping demand treats, once treats are administered, Ms. Frizzle will repeat the behavior 2/11/26: Ms. Frizzle is standing at the front of her kennel as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and will pull moderately to the behavior office where she her collar is clipped with a drag leash. She is able to explore freely around the room and will play with toys, tossing them into the air and chasing after them. After a while, Ms. Frizzle will engage with the snuffle mat, eating treats out of it slowly and with a loose frame. She will approach the handler but then quickly turn around to go pick up a toy. After a while, she is returned to her kennel with no issue. 2/2/26: Ms. Frizzle is laying down at the front of her kennel as the handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and will pull moderately to the behavior office. Once in the office her collar is clipped with a drag leash and will start to interact with the enrichment set up on the floor, quickly snuffling and eating multiple treats in the snuffle mat at a time. When licking the licki mat she will push it under a towel and then turn around and start to pick up a toy, throwing it into the air, chasing and shaking it around. After a while she is tossed some treats and coaxed over to the leas. Once leashed she will mouth the leash for a bit but is easily refocused on a treat scatter. She is then returned to her kennel with no further issue. 01/08/26 ( Assessment Note): Ms. Frizzle is standing at the front of her kennel and allows the handler to leash her with ease. She is escorted to the assessment room, where she allows placement of a collar and drag leash. Ms. Frizzle begins spinning in circles and chasing her tail. She allows handling but becomes highly aroused, displaying muzzle punching to the handler’s leg, attempts to jump, bulging eyes, and heavy panting. She does not respond to knocking, hovers over the toy, displays resource guarding, and lightly mouths the handler’s hand. Ms. Frizzle is returned to her kennel safely without further issues. Basic manners/poor impulse control: Ms. Frizzle is noted to jump on the handler often.Reinforcing alternative greeting behaviors—such as sitting for attention—will help reduce jumping. Anxiety: Ms. Frizzle is noted to heavy panting and spinning in circles.Providing structured routines, calming enrichment, and reinforcing settled behavior can help her regulate arousal. Please see the handout on generalized anxiety. Leash-biting: Ms.Frizzle is noted in the care cneter to leash bite and biting at the harness, shaking it in the hallway but was able to be leashed normally in the hallway and taken on a walk.Consistent reward-based redirection, reinforcing engagement, and practicing calm exit/entry routines will help reduce this behavior. Please see the handout on leash biting. Low threshold for arousal/Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: During her intake she is noted to become tense and stop walking when hearing loud noise. During the jog portion of the behavioral assessment, On Ms. Frizzle 1 st pass she displayed a high tail on 2nd and 3rd pass she displayed high hackle, tense body, attempt mouth leg the helper leg.Training should focus on gradual exposure to triggers, reinforcing calm behavior, and reducing arousal before it escalates.
