I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/24/2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health - allergies.

Milo is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. He will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. There are no known behavior concerns for Milo at this time, average determination.

Reportedly not eating in iso yesterday; started on supportive care on 11/10 (cerenia, SQF, mirtazapine) S/O -QAR -good overall appetite but did not take meds on food today -mild serous nasal discharge, no sneezing noted -OU: mild blepharospasm with elevated 3rd eyelid -eupnic -polydactyl A URI-improving conjunctivitis-active inappetance-resolved; r/o behavioral vs secondary to URI P CWCT repeat mirtazapine tomorrow to ensure he continues to have a good appetite

Hx: URI that is slow to resolve. Pt is on doxycycline through 11/17/17; received mirtazapine yesterday. Today pt has mild congestion and occasional slightly open mouth. Mild epiphora noted. URI is definitely resolving, just slowly. Continue doxycycline, add lysine daily. Recheck tomorrow. 1088

11/16 reported to have blood in kennel. Has a URI - patient is still sick. Sneezing bloody nasal discharge today. Re-treating with doxy (0.5mL) for 7 days and rechecking on the 20th. Notes entered for 1088.

Recheck URI, appeared clear but had recurrent sneezing; today is day 3 of extended course of doxycycline S/O -QAR, regresses initially when approached but warms up quickly and allows handling -good appetite -moist nares but no active discharge, sneezing or congestion noted -OU: slightly elevated 3rd eyelid -eupnic A URI, mild conjunctivitis today P add erythromycin continue doxycycline recheck on 11/24

Anesthesia Report: Pre-medication: 0.05 mL dexdomitor, 0.02 mL butorphanol, 0.25 mL ketamine. 0.30 mL Simbadol and 0.23 mL Robenacoxib given SQ during prep for pain management.

Upon intake Milo allowed all handling. When removed from the carrier he attempted to hide. However once held for a few minutes he became more relaxed however still with a tense body. He allowed being collared and placed in a carrier.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/25/17 Curled up at back, eyes dilated, tense posture, head down. Lay in place when door opened, allowed pets, held completely immobile. No real response. Sprayed feliway. 10/29/17 In top cubby, pressed into back corner, eyes dilated. Shifted in place when door opened, ignored treats. Sniffed my hand, briefly leaned away, then allowed pets. Minor lip licking. Sprayed feliway. 10/30/17 Escaped and bit ACS, move downstairs. Hunched low in middle of cage, eyes fully dilated. Became alert when door opened, lifted head slightly. Tolerated pets, but slowly shifted backwards. Sprayed thunderease. 10/31/17 Crouched low towards back of cage, tense posture, eyes dilated, eating wet food. Stopped eating and backed away when door opened, started lip licking. Slowly moved away when offered assess-a-hand, then moved to crouch in litter box. Tolerated pets, remained very tense posture, held low. Sprayed thunderease. 11/1/17 Crouched on top of kuranda bed, head down, ears sideways, eyes completely dilated. Quiet growling? Backed into corner when door opened, held completely immobile when pet. Sprayed thunderease. 11/2/17 Crouched on top of kuranda bed, head low, eyes fully dilated. Shifted slightly in place when door opened, but didn’t retreat. Allowed, slightly leaned into pets, closed eyes. Sprayed thunderease. 11/5/17 Resting on top of kuranda bed, eyes fully dilated, third eyelids exposed. Not feeling well? Lay in place when door opened. Allowed and slightly leaned into pets, started lip licking. Posture seemed overall softer today than previously. Ate treats after door closed. Sprayed thunderease. 11/6/17 Huge improvement! At the front today, soft eyes and body, meowing loudly. Sniffed hand through the bars, stayed at the front when door opened. Leaned and arched into pets, purred! Ate offered treats, stayed at the front after door closed, resumed meowing. 11/7/17 At the front on approach, soft eyes and body, meowing and rubbing against the bars. Stayed at the front when door opened, leaned and arched into pets, lifted rear for butt scratches, purred. Squirmed when attempted pickup, ate offered treats. Stayed at the front after door closed, continued to meow and rub against the bars whenever spoken to.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Milo begins to meow and rub against the bars.

Reaction to being picked up:: Milo squirms away to avoid pets, then immediately resumes soliciting attention.

Potential challenges comments:: Milo did not appear to like being picked up during his behavior evaluation. Please keep in mind there are many reasons why a cat may be uncomfortable with this type of handling and that this may not necessarily translate into a home environment. We recommend any future home with children be counseled in respecting the cat’s space and for the family to use care when picking him up, especially while he is still adjusting to his new home.
