Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Hocus is at risk for medical reasons. Hocus has a history of mammary tumors and has been diagnosed with neoplasia. Hocus will need follow up vet and long term care. Behaviorally, Hocus would be suitable for most homes.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

A volunteer writes: She just looked at me at first, wondering what's in it for her if she made the effort to get up and walk towards me. With a few treats, she was easily bribed, and once she came out she certainly did not want to go back. She definitely wanted more treats, which she at from my hand. She quickly warms up to people, showing off her friendly nature and enchanting beauty--especially her gorgeous fur with the pumpkin-orange highlights. I hung out with her the other night and became entranced by her sweetness and gentle way with humans. At 8 years old, she's outgrown the manic young-cat neediness and has years ahead of her to be an attentive and charming BFF for any deserving human. Come visit her soon. With the magic of a few treats in hand, she would love to go home with you.

My medical notes are...

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: The mammary gland is expanded by a poorly encapsulated, multilobular, invasive neoplasm composed of ducts and tubules separated by scant to abundant fibrous connective tissue supported by small to medium amounts of fibrovascular and scirrhous stroma. The ducts and tubules are lined by one to several layers of closely packed cuboidal to columnar epithelial cells which often pile up and fill the lumen. Mitoses are common and mitotic atypia is present. Focally extensive central necrosis is also seen. MICROSCOPIC INTERPRETATION: Mammary adenocarcinoma. Mitotic count: 16 Margins: The mass abuts the tissue margins. Complete excision cannot be confirmed. Vascular invasion: Not confirmed, but several suspicious areas are present. COMMENTS: Feline mammary carcinomas are malignant neoplasms with the potential to metastasize widely to regional lymph nodes and visceral organs. Mammary tumors are estimated as the third most common tumor in cats, representing 12% of feline tumors overall (irrespective of sex). Over 85% of feline mammary tumors are malignant. The average age of affected cats is 10-12 years old. The Siamese breed has been associated with an increased risk of mammary neoplasia. Malignant mammary tumors occur most often in female cats spayed late in life (or not at all), although these neoplasms can also occur in males. Cats spayed before 1 year of age have a significant reduction in the risk of developing mammary carcinoma later in life. Administration of exogenous progestins significantly increases the risk of mammary neoplasia in both male and female cats. Feline mammary carcinomas are characteristically biologically aggressive, but the range of reported survival times varies widely. Mortality is generally high (80-90%). Tumor diameter, extent of surgery (radical versus partial mastectomy), grade and clinical stage have been shown to be prognostically significant. Larger tumors ( greater than 3 cm diameter) have been associated with reduced survival times. There is progressive reduction in survival with increased stage (12-29 months for stages I and II, 6-9 months for stage III, and 1 month for stage IV). Lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastasis are associated with shorter survival times. References: Meuten, ed. (2017), Tumors in Domestic Animals, 5th ed., chapter 17; Mills et al. Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 1. Green

KNOWN HISTORY:: Hocuas was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on her behavior history in a home environment.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Calm,Sweet,Curious,Independent

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2

Behavior Asilomar: H - Healthy

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Hocus was mellow and allowed and perhaps even enjoyed petting all over her body but didn't seem particularly interested in petting. She was relaxed when gently picked up and after she was set down she came forward and expressed a real interest in quietly and gently exiting the kennel. She should be given a slow introduction to the new home one room at a time until she is confident enough to express interest in exploring without wanting to hide. Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior.
