Dior
Hello, my name is Dior. My animal id is #250151. I am a male gray dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 3/25/2026.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormDior is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Dior displays a high level fearfulness in the kennel, including hard barking, growling, and retreating from the leash. Dior is fearful when being leashed, having to be distracted while the leash is being put on or he will retreat. Dior engages well with enrichment and consistently takes treats and will offer sit cues but is struggling to acclimate in the care center. Medically, Dior has Cherry eye in both eyes and dental disease.

Potential challenges: : Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Strength/leash pulling
Potential challenges comments:: Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Dior is noted to become mouthy when taking treats.Redirecting him to appropriate toys, teaching gentle treat-taking, and reinforcing calm engagement can help reduce mouthiness. Please see the handout on Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Dior is noted in the care center to bark and growl as the handler during leashing attempts when taking out of his kennel. He is able to approach the front and would eat treats that the handler would toss inside. As the handler attempts to leash him, he would stop eating the treats and would hard bark and growl while retreating to the back of his kennel. Training should prioritize slow, gentle exposure to new environments, reinforcing voluntary movement, and building confidence through predictable, low-pressure interactions. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression. Strength/leash pulling: Dior is noted to to pull hard while on leash. Training should emphasize loose-leash walking skills, rewarding engagement with the handler, and using supportive walking equipment to improve safety and control. Please see the handout on Strength/leash pulling.
