Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Friday is on the emergency placement list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have lived with 5 other cats. A volunteer writes: Friday tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and would most likely be intimidated by small children. He is somewhat independent, and may need time to warm up in his new, forever home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. Please check here for updated adoption hours. A volunteer writes: Friday may have taken a little time to come out of his shell, but we are so happy to see him shining brighter each day! I had the good fortune to sit with Friday (on his namesake day!) as he ate his dinner. He initially wasn't so interested in pets or cuddles but after he finished his dinner, Friday's diamond personality emerged! He opened his show with a little walk/stretch around his condo. Walking in a circle he punctuated each rotation by reaching out to tap my arm. Friday took the lead and with the condo door open, he circled up to me. Gleefully tucking himself into my arms and rolling with his belly up, we had so much fun together! Clearly Friday loves to cuddle, but wait there's more! Friday also loves to play and when he plays, he does so with the enthusiasm of a kitten! Cheerful and good natured, start everyday on the bright side with our Friday!

KNOWN HISTORY:: Friday was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on their behavior history in a home environment. They previously lived with 5 other cats.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/10/23 Friday was hiding in his cat den upon approach, initially hidden from view. Friday poked his head out when offered treaties and he returned a few slow-blinks while watching me and continuing to watch the treats. He does not step out of his den or come closer at this time but he is showing some curious behaviors! 9/14/23 Lying in back of kennel, body and face tense and pupils dilated. His ears are forward and his feet and tail are stretched away from his body. He eats the treats offered and I spend the remainder of the session clicking and rewarding each time he tolerates a touch on the head. Will continue to build positive associations. 9/17/23 Friday was lying in his cat bed. I put treats near him, but he would not eat them. He walked over to the other side of the kennel. I gave him a catnip mouse toy and he rolled over onto his back, making biscuits on the steel wall of the kennel. He accepted all petting and was very affectionate and sweet. 9/20/23 Laying under his kuranda bed with a neutral face and body, ears forward and face slightly curious. When the door is opened and I offer him the scratcher tool to sniff, he remains in his spot but sniffs the tool and is tolerant of some pets and even begins to lean into pets along his cheek slightly. He then gets up with a neutral body and stretches as he walks to the other side of his double and comes to the front calmly to eat treats offered. When I then offer the tool again and attempt to pet, he backs away from the tool and is slightly tense. 9/24/23 Friday came up to the front of the kennel as soon as he spotted me. I gave him soft Irresistibles treats, which he ate. When he saw I had a feather toy for him, he put his paw out to reach for it. He played with it for a while. When I put a hand towards him to pet him, he hesitated at first, pulling away from me. He then decided to lie down and allow me to pet him on his head and body, seeming to enjoy the affection. When I ended the interaction and closed the door, he rubbed against the door, seeking more attention, so I continued to pet him through the kennel door. He seems to be much happier and sociable than he was in the recent past.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Skittish,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: please see behavior flyers for more information.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Friday is laying on their kuranda bed with a tense face and body, eyes wide and dilated, and tail wrapped tightly around their body. When the assessor offers the scratcher tool to sniff, he remains frozen but begins to sniff when it is placed directly in front of their nose before they pull their head back. When the assessor begins to pet along their side with the tool, they tense and begin to curl up tighter and push away from the tool but are still relatively tolerant. Pick up is not attempted. Friday displayed similar behaviors during his re-assessment. Friday tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. They may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to their new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
