Buggie

Hello, my name is Buggie. My animal id is #266083. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/5/2026, with the surrender reason stated as other.

Buggie is on the at-risk list for medical reasons. He is a sweet cat with diabetes mellitus. He needs placement in a low stress home with long term management of his condition by a local veterinarian. Behaviorally, Buggie is soft bodied, solicities pets often, and allows all medical handling.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. A volunteer writes: Buggie and his mom Momma Precious came to us as the dogs in the house were becoming increasingly aggressive toward them. Poor Buggle was all worked up and started to throw up. Very quickly, our veterinary team discovered that Buggie had Diabetes Mellitus (with ketosis) and he was started on Insulin. Stress in his home was not a good thing for his medical condition..Buggie and his mom were super friendly upon admission to the care center and Buggie revealed himself to be a a very good patient, eating well too. Actually, he is a total sweetheart!! At home, his former owners describe him as sweet and loving, very active and playful, needing time to warm up to strangers and living harmoniously with Momma Precious. Buggie is quite cute too and his pretty eyes look so much like his mom's. Buggie needs out in a less stressful environment(definitively without dogs) and a follow up for his DM by an outside veterinarian. He is a really nice and sweet little guy, already neutered and who did very well on his behavior evaluation. Buggie needs you now. What my friends at ACC say about me: I have lived with cats in my previous home. I am finding the shelter a bit overwhelming. Outside one-on-one I am a great big cuddle bug. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. I have lived with dogs in my previous home and was fearful and defensive around them. I would do best in a home without dogs! Buggie interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or who demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.

When he is spoken to softly, he gets up, lip licking but approaching the front of the kennel and greeting the assessor with a soft head bunt. He allows all petting, leaning in and raising his back as he is pet, tail occasionally swooshing but continuing to lean into and remain receptive to extended petting. Buggie is able to be easily picked up but will squirm when held. When he is placed back into the kennel, he remains at the front and continues to softly head bunt the assessor's hand and leans into all further petting, continuing to raise his back as he is pet. He seems a bit uncertain about the new environment throughout the assessment, lip licking and looking around with dilated pupils, but remains social and engaged with the assessor. When the kennel door is closed and the interaction is ended, he calmly walks over to his wet food bowl and begins to eat. Buggie interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems.
