Animal Profile

Luna

Hello, my name is Luna. My animal id is #88541. I am a desexed female brown dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 12 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/14/2020, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too big.

Reserved

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Luna is at risk for behavior reasons. Luna came to ACC as an owner surrender due to behavior concerns; it was reported that she had sensitivity issues at her previous home and would snap if her face was touched. They claimed that Luna snapped at one of the children's, that is living in the household, hand and had bitten the resident cat. While in our care, we have observed similar behavior described by her previous owner. She snapped at a handler while they attempted to clip her harness. Luna remains uncomfortable, allowing minimal handling and is only been allowed to be walked by staff members. Luna is apparently healthy according to our Veterinary team. Due her overall behavioral concerns with her level sensitivity, we are recommending rescue placement.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),No cats,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No cats: Luna has bitten a cat in her previous home environment and is reported to chase and snap at them, for these reasons we advise against a home with cats. No children (under 13): Due to Luna's overall level of fear and discomfort, we feel as though she would be best set up to succeed in an adult only home environment. Place with a New Hope partner: During her stay in the care center, Luna has remained uncomfortable, tolerating only minimal handler; she has been observed to escalate to snapping when uncomfortable. At this time, we feel as though Luna would be best set up to succeed if placed with an experienced rescue partner at this time; guidance from a professional trainer or behaviorist is highly advised.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Bite history (other animal)

Potential challenges comments:: Luna is reported to have previously bitten a cat though no skin was broken, please see handout on Bite History. Luna is reported to snap when her face is touched; she has also been observed to snap at handlers in the care center when uncomfortable, please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression as well as Handling Sensitivity.
