Emergency Placement Animals

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Animal Care Centers of NYC. Our emergency placement animals are posted three times a week, on the evenings of Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6:00PM and remain viewable for 42 hours.

Schedule overview:
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Sunday evening will be viewable until Tuesday at 12:00PM noon.
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Tuesday evening will be viewable until Thursday at 12:00PM noon.
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Thursday evening will be viewable until Saturday at 12:00PM noon.

If this is your first time visiting this site, please read the below information carefully.

For anyone who wishes to adopt, there is a mandatory deposit fee of $200 plus a transaction fee per animal to place an adoption reservation. The $200 covers $50 toward the adoption fee and $150 for the spay/neuter deposit. If the animal has already been spayed or neutered or is permanently waived by one of our veterinarians, the $150 deposit will be refunded at the time of the adoption. If the animal does need to leave without being spayed or neutered due to his/her medical condition, the $150 deposit will be refunded at the time they are brought back for the spay/neuter surgery or when proof of sterilization being done elsewhere is provided to ACC. If you do not follow through with the adoption, the entire $200 deposit will be considered a charitable donation to ACC's Special Treatment and Recovery Fund (STAR). Also, if the adoption fee for an animal is less than $50, the difference will be considered a charitable donation to the STAR Fund. Similarly, in-shelter pricing promotions do not apply to emergency placement animals.

To complete an adoption, please click reserve on the animal of your choice. That animal will be loaded in your cart and you will have 15 minutes to complete the adoption process. In order to complete your reservation, you need to check out (top right corner). At this point, you will enter in your credit card information and a receipt will be emailed to you as confirmation of your reservation. Wonka Blue is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Wonka Blue has been leash-biting in care intensely when out for walks and is refocused with treats, but continues the same behavior when not constantly being refocused. Wonka Blue in care is social with staff and loves engaging in play. Medically, Wonka Blue is diagnosed with ataxia.

Zuna
Zuna is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Zuna has been observed yelling and screeching in her kennel when staff are in the hallways. Upon approach, she begins to pant and bark. However, outside her kennel, Zuna is sociable with certain staff members and permits pets. When encountering new individuals, she exhibits nervousness and whips her head when touched during the handling portion of her assessment. Medically, Zuna is overweight and was reported to be vomiting.

Goose is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Goose is highly social, but he exhibits social arousal during interactions and can quickly become mouthy, often grabbing onto staff treat pouches while jumping on them. Additionally, when he sees other dogs, he has been observed lunging at the fence. Despite these behaviors, Goose enjoys social interactions and willingly takes treats from staff. Medically, Goose is healthy.

Sprinkles is on the emergency placement list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Lilly
Lilly is in need of emergency placement for medical and behavior reasons. Lilly has multiple masses that continue to grow. She needs further workup/mass removal with a specialist, and we are unable to provide that at our facility. Behaviorally, Lilly is a sweet and tolerant girl. She is reactive to visual stimuli passing her kennel. She is biting her lips causing them to bleed and jumping continuously putting her at risk to hurt herself.

Bella is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. At the Care Centers, she displays fearfulness and has been observed to lunge and snap. Occasionally, she maintains a tense demeanor and hard stares, but she can be handled if approached gradually. According to her owner, she tends to lunge at unfamiliar dogs but is sociable with those she knows. Bella is also proficient in cues such as sitting, lying down, and circling. Medically, Bella is obese, lethargic, has a low appetite, and has a CIRDC.

Wallflower is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Wallflower was brought to the care centers as a stray. While at the Care Center, she has allowed minimal handling and displays high fear and stress with a tucked tail, tense body, and dilated eyes. Wallflower has begun to display deterioration in her kennel. Wallflower is throwing herself into her kennel walls and door and is hard barking, screeching, and growling. She knocks over her water bowl and does not settle. Medically, Wallflower is receiving treatment for CIRDC.

La La is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. La La tends to avoid most handling, displaying signs of discomfort by tucking her tail and tensing up when staff interact with her. She often tries to exit inside the pens, pawing at the gate. However, with a slow and gentle approach, La La has shown some tolerance to handling, accompanied by a wagging tail, although she still exhibits signs of stress such as lip licking. Medically, La La has CIRDC currently.

Tinker is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Tinker has shown defensive behaviors, including freezing, hard barking, and snapping when fearful. Occasionally, he displays a hunched, tense posture at the back of his kennel. Tinker is receptive to treats from certain handlers and has exhibited some social behavior with familiar staff. Additionally, he has been observed lightly biting his leash. Medically, Tinker has dermatitis.

Since she is obese, not eating puts her at risk of more severe illness. Due to her behavior, we cannot provide daily supportive care at the shelter. She would benefit from hospitalization and intensive care to help her recover.

Sage is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Sage has been reported to engage in kennel fights when other dogs walk past her kennel or when she is being removed. She exhibits charging, lunging, and snapping behaviors towards other dogs in their kennels. However, outside the kennel environment, Sage is social and accepts treats. Recently, Sage has been observed to excessively salivate and then bite and lick her kennel bars upon being returned to her kennel. Medically, Sage is healthy.

During her time at the care centers, Ari has exhibited limited tolerance for handling. Staff have observed her thrashing, pawing, and biting at the slip lead. When taken outside, she continues to display fearfulness and has nipped at a staff member. Inside her kennel, Ari has been observed biting at the bars and displaying high levels of anxiety. However, she does show comfort by accepting treats from familiar staff when she feels at ease. Medically, Ari is healthy.

Angel in care has been intensely fearful and avoids any interaction with staff members. Medically, Angel has alopecia, a fractured tooth, and a corneal scar.

Marshmello is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Marshmello in care has began leash bite with staff when being refocused after he begins to react to other dogs on leash, as well as displaying a high amount of kennel stress, vocalizing and licking his food slot.. Marshmello has also shown a significant amount of resource guarding when being given enrichment items, hovering and snarling over items given to him. Medically, Marshmello is underweight and has periodontal disease stage 2/4.

Tokyo's owner mentioned that he tends to hard bark and growl at strangers and children, displaying similar behaviors when guarding food. During his time in the Care Centers, Tokyo appeared tense and apprehensive during handling, yet eagerly accepted treats when offered. Medically, Tokyo has alopecia, a canine infectious respiratory disease complex, geriatric, and is matted.
