A volunteer writes: Twelve year old Nougat and ten year old Marzipan were brought to the Manhattan Care Center as their owner was taken into care. They are two gentle souls who must have been such wonderful companions. They are calm, well mannered, welcoming of staff and volunteers(Marzipan is a bit shyer than Nougat), leaning into pets and even purring. Both pets seem to have been well cared for. They have a good weight, a thick and shiny coat, are already spayed and neutered and know their way around people. Nougat, though was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and is being treated for it. Marzipan is apparently healthy. Both have as expected, senior teeth. Nougat and marzipan are great names for the two housemates as they are so sweet but Marzipan(made of almond paste) is usually white, so I wonder...Marzipan and Nougat would love to go home, may be it could be with you and together(if at all possible0....They are both waiting for their forever at the Manhattan Care Center.What my friends at ACC say about me: I can go home today! My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am a sweet, social, older gentleman, looking for the perfect forever home! I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat.

Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 1. Green
KNOWN HISTORY:: Nougat was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment. During intake, Nougat was friendly and curious. He walked out of the carrier easily and was picked up and placed into a kennel.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Calm,Sweet,Affectionate
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Other
Potential challenges comments:: Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior. He struggled a bit during the pickup, and while not to the point of being described as "uncomfortable with pickup", he may need a little extra care when picking him up.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 1
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Nougat was lying in a loaf position with soft, neutral eyes in the back of his kennel. He slowly came forward to sniff the treats offered to him but instead began leaning into pets. He enjoyed petting all along his head and body while scanning the room. When transitioning to pick up, his body tensed but he remained calm and tolerated the handling. When placed down, his tail lowered as he moved to the back of the kennel, body still tense and hesitant to come forward. After giving him a moment to decompress, he laid down and gently leaned into more petting. Nougat interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is suitable for any level of adopter experience.
