Animal Profile

Baby Face

Hello, my name is Baby Face. My animal id is #265226. I am a male tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 1 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 9/13/2026.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Baby Face is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. Due to the detailed behavior issues, this animal is only available for foster/adoption through one of ACC's New Hope Partners. If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please fill out the pre-screener form. This animal is not directly available for adoption through ACC and is only available by completing the pre-screener form. Adoption inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response. Pre-Screener Form A volunteer writes: Baby Face was seen pawing at people's doors in hopes someone would open their hearts and homes to him. Though technically unsuccessful, we wish we could persuade Baby Face to adjust his definition of success just a tiny bit. He was certainly noticed and, for better or worse, it helped bring him to us and helping forever families connect is kind of our thing. I sincerely doubt Baby Face will come around to this, but one thing he will happily come around to are treats. Loafing on his little kitty den, he politely ignored my outstretched hand as he stepped down for snacks. Baby Face is doing a lot to not be noticed, but we think he'd really like to be, especially if it brings him closer to a forever family.

Behavior Condition: 5. Red

KNOWN HISTORY:: Baby Face was brought in as a stray; there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment. Upon intake Baby was stated to be showing fearful aggression. No contact was attempted as he was growling, hissing, and swatting inside the carrier.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/21/26 ACFR Baby face is lying down in his kennel. I offered him churu on a tool. He sniffed and backed away. I wiped the churu on the kennel floor and he ate it that way. I opened the kennel and came forward for churu. After he finished the tube, Baby Face licked his lips and low growled. Stopped the interaction and gave him dry treats. 10/13/26 Baby Face was curious on top of the den watching form a distance. He slowly sniffs the scratcher tool and briefly allows petting along the head. However, after a few gentle strokes he lifts up paw and soft pats at it. He then engages the front when spoken softly to while offering treats which he was interested in. Baby Face remained neutral with soft eyes, ears relaxed and forward. 10/23/26 FB09 Baby Face was perched on top of his den and immediately came down at the sight of treats. He eagerly approached the handler with neutral eyes and ate the treats offered to him. He accepted some head pets while eating but once finished, he quickly flinched back. He watched the handler carefully and didn't mind their presence but remained weary of direct contact. 10/26 ACFR Baby face was sitting on top of den when approached. He came down when offered churu. He ate up the churu. I tried some head scratches with tool but he backed away and jumped back onto den. He came forward again for some more churu. I gave him some pets on the head with my hand while he was eating churu and tolerated it. Head and eyes have some irritation so I was being gentle. 11/2/26 ACFR Baby face was lying inside his den when handler approached. He stayed relaxed inside his den looking at handler. Handler started opening a churu and Baby Face made his way out the den. He ate the whole tube of churu. Once he was done he backed away and sat down while handler gave some sweet talk. Baby face was relaxed and grooming himself when handler was talking to him.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 09/16/26 Baby Face is laying curled up on top of his den, body tense and beginning to low growl as the kennel door is opened. He is tolerant of some petting on the head with the scratcher tool, continuing to low growl before turning and biting at the stick. He is observed to lunge, hiss, growl, and swat hard outside of the kennel as handlers walk by. When attempting further interaction, he lunges forward and begins to vocalize and bite the stick more forcefully. 10/16/26 Baby Face was lying on top of his den with dilated eyes and forward ears, scanning the room cautiously. He leaned forward to sniff the treats offered to him before coming down from his den to eat them. He accepted some petting along his head both during and after eating. Once he heard outside noise, he flinched back, then quickly hissed and tried to swat at the handler. The interaction ended to reduce FAS. Baby Face is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
