KNOWN HISTORY:: Purse was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 8/19/26 Vol. Purse was lying in cubby, looking into main kennel with wide dilated eyes. His body appeared tense, and he lip licked when approached. He leaned forward to sniff at a catnip mouse but did not play. After speaking to him softly and giving slow blinks, he withdrew into cubby and pressed himself against back wall. Ended interaction due to FAS. 8/20/26 Vol. Purse was crouched in the back of the cubby. When approached, his pupils were completed dilated and he low growled throughout a period of sweet talk. Left some crunchy treats. Needs more time.  8/31/26 Feline Rep Purse was hiding in den with head slightly out of den door watching me upon approach. When opening the kennel purse retreated to hide in his den. I placed feliway felt in kennel and went to give churu on a stick. Purse began hissing when stick was presented then proceeded to swat at stick and began low grumbling. I ended the session and left churu on tray. 9/6/26 ACFR I wanted to note first that purse was trilling and laying on his side while looking at me (in his den no den cover) when I was doing my social with jeep wrangler. When I came to his kennel his head was poking out of the den, eyes dilated. I offered some treats and purse was sniffing them. He continued lying in his den and began slow blinking at me. I sat with him a little longer, offered some pets with the scratcher. He let me pet him a little bit but was unsure and backed away. I ended the session with some treats. 9/9/26 FB09 Purse was in his den with dilated eyes and stuck his head out of his kennel. He hissed when the handler approached and his ears lowered. When offering treats on the click stick, he sniffed the treats before swatting hard and hissing again. The interaction was ended to reduce FAS.

Potential challenges comments:: Purse should be given a slow introduction to the home, one room at a time starting in a small room like a bathroom with food, litter and water. Interact with him in this room until he seems sufficiently confident that you feel you can introduce him to the next part of the home without running the risk that he will hide. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to help introduce your cat to the home.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 8/16/26 Purse was lying curled up in his cubby and looked at the handler with wide, dilated eyes and forward ears. He sniffed the treats offered to him but showed no further interest. He allowed extensive petting along his head and back as his eyes slowly softened. When adding pressure to his chest and side to simulate pick up, his body was tense, but he remained calm and allowed the handling. He accepted more petting afterwards. 8/22/26 Purse is inside of his cubby sitting up with forward ears and dilated eyes. He sniffs offered scratcher tool with treats and licks his lips. When petting is attempted on his cheeks, he lunges forward and bites the tool with force. The interaction is ended to not further increase his stress. Purse is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to bite, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
