DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: approx 8-10 years based on dentition and conformation Microchip noted on Intake? scanned negative History: agency Subjective: BAR Observed Behavior - growling, hissing, airplane airs, sedated as precaution Is there evidence of suspected cruelty? N Objective: T = np P = wnl R = wnl BCS 8/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: moderate -severe wear and staining to visible dentition with appearance of decay over the maxillary molars (see photos) PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated, overconditioned U/G: MN MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Dental dz -moderate/severe Obese Prognosis: fair Plan: intake exam and tasks sedated with 0.14mL dex/torb- added in 0.14 ket, added in additional 0.02mL dex IM, still growling but able to perform exam reversed with equal vol antisedan IM awaiting sort SURGERY: Prior altered

KNOWN HISTORY:: ??Shock was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment. Upon intake, fearful and growling. handled minimally.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: At the time of his evaluation Shock appears to be struggling significantly to adjust to the shelter environment. This may have been additionally affected by him not having a cage cover or much room to move or hide in the single cage he was in. He presented with a very tense face and body, eyes wide and dilated, and pressed against the back of his cage. He does not tolerate much interaction or touch, and escalates quickly to defensive aggression due to his incredibly high level of FAS.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Shock would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Shock is laying at the back of the cage with a tense face and body, eyes wide and dilated, and ears tilted. He flinches as the cage door is opened, and tries to press back further into the back wall. As the assessor offers the scratcher tool out to him, he begins to low growl. Once contact is made, he immediately begins to hiss and jerks away before swatting and holding the tool down. This behavior is repeated when the assessor tries to make contact one more time and he begins to fail. The interaction is ended, and pick up is not attempted. Shock is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
