Animal Profile

Eleven

Hello, my name is Eleven. My animal id is #255084. I am a desexed male brown tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 5/21/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- hoarding situation.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Eleven is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I have lived with cats in my previous home. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. A volunteer writes: Eleven stretched himself out for a nap in a position I can't quite describe except to say it looked uncomfortable, but that's a cat for you. I hoped Eleven would be ok with some pets and treats, so I quietly opened the door only for him to tell me that he absolutely wasn't ok with that. A fluffy cheeked gentleman with brilliant and inquiring eyes, he regarded me from the top of his den and said in no uncertain terms that petting and playtime were off the table. Fair as Eleven came to us from a home with many other cats and we don't know much about his life before, but we know he isn't so sure about the shelter. He'd love a little chance to become the cat he's meant to and hopes you'll offer him that.

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 4. Orange

KNOWN HISTORY:: Eleven was brought in with no information on their behavior history in a home environment. They previously lived in a hoarding environment with many other cats.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 5/28/26 FB61 In cat den upon approach, body and face completely hidden from view. He reaches out towards the scratcher tool and swats it before it can touch him. I leave him some treats and a catnip toy that he can hopefully enjoy later when he's feeling more safe. High levels of fear and stress. 6/4/26 FB25 He is at the front of the kennel when I lift the cover to peak in. He is crouched low to the ground and he hisses when he sees me, his hair standing up along his back. He doesn't move back at all so I don't attempt to open the door. After a few moments, he stops hissing and just watches me, licking his lips. I manage to get some treats through the door to leave him with. He's still very stressed. 6/6/26 FB58 Eleven is sitting at the front of his cage with his face near the cubby, ears forward, face and body somewhat neutral. He tenses and hisses as I approach slowly but remains in place and I slide a squeeze up tube in the crack in the cubby and squeeze it out, leaving it for him to investigate. He slowly steps forward and begins to eat. I click to mark him eating and wait for him to finish and step back before I slowly open the cubby door to place some dry treats in. I am able to do so without him lunging, and can snap a couple pictures of him as well! 6/9/26 FB25 He is sitting on the ledge, pressed toward the back. He doesn't hiss upon approach but he has a tight body, his tail wrapped around himself and his eyelids low. He does return a few slow blinks and there is no hissing when I crack the kennel door. I slide in a catnip toy and he doesn't move, but he can be seen sniffing the air. 6/11/26 FB25 He is sitting at the front of the kennel, eating some of his food. When I approach, he stops to look up at me, but doesn't move away. He watches me with wide eyes and forward ears. I speak softly to him and attempt slow blinks, but he doesn't return them. I pass some treats through the kennel and he sniffs them but doesn't take them. When I move closer to him, he scurries up to the ledge, but he doesn't hiss!

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Shy ,Timid,Skittish,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period,Adult cat socialization

Potential challenges comments:: Eleven came from a home with about 50+ other cats, it is likely that she was not appropriately socialized to humans.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Eleven would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Upon approach, Eleven was inside the den, out of view. As the kennel door opened, the scratcher was slowly offered alongside the den. Eleven swatted at the scratcher with force from inside the den. Closing the portal door, the assessor then lifted the den cover. He was hunched at the back of the den, growling, hissing and snorting. His wide eyes were fixated on the assessor’s hand. As they were lifting the glass, Eleven lunged and swatted the glass with force. He had no interest in the scratcher when it was offered as he remained fixated on the assessor’s hand. As the assessor was closing up the den, he lunged and swatted the glass again in the direction of the assessor’s hand. No pick up was attempted at this time. Eleven is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. Eleven is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. They have tried to swat / scratch / bite / is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
