Kano

Kano is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns in his previous home. Kano in his previous home is reported to lunge at children, strangers and small dogs on his walks, but this is a behavior that has not been displayed in the care center. Kano is also noted to have some arousal concerns, and resource guard his food when people approach by growling or barking. Kano in the care center is social with staff and loves to play in the yards. Medically, Kano is apparently healthy.

Winter
|
|
Winter is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Winter has displayed some defensive aggression and mild arousal concerns, including mouthing hands and clothing, and fixating on dogs and moving stimuli when on walks. Winter, during some interaction, will display high levels of anxiety such as panting, whining, exit-seeking, and when initially brought into care, would snap at the leash and had difficulty acclimating at first. Winter has warmed up to staff, enjoying going to the yard and playing, but struggling to settle in some interactions. He recently had an incident with a staff member during a walk, where Winter became aroused and bit their forearm, resulting in a scratch that broke skin. He also had an altercation with another dog after escaping the play yard. No bites occurred with either dog. Medically, Winter is apparently healthy.

Futon
|
|
Futon is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Futon arrived at the Care Center as a stray. Upon arrival Futon was noted to be highly fearful, noted to be very tense for her medical exam. With time, Futon has shown improved sociability; in her most recent handling assessment she was noted to warm up to handlers and be treat receptive. Futon has been showing on-leash reactivity, observed to pull hard towards people and dogs when on walks with a tense body. Staff have reported that Futon's reactivity can be managed with treats and is showing promise with 'engage/disengage' clicker training. Medically, Futon is apparently healthy.

Nymeria

Nymeria is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Nymeria arrived at the Care Center as an owner surrender. Nymeria's previous owner noted that she is fearful of unfamiliar people and that has been observed during her arrival and initial part of her stay. Nymeria was noted to be tense during her handling assessment and medical exam. With time Nymeria has warmed up to staff, becoming social by soliciting contact and is now treat receptive. However, despite these improvements she is showing concerning on-leash reactivity. Nymeria has been observed to pull hard towards dogs with a tense body while vocalizing, this behavior is difficult to redirect. With staff Nymeria remains social. Medically, Nymeria is noted to have a wound that is healing and is overweight.

Moochie
|

Moochie is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Moochie was recently returned from foster. Moochie is reported to have bitten the foster multiple times over resources. During her previous stay in care Moochie was observed to become tense while in the possession of a toy. Her foster parent also noted handling sensitivity; once when the handler attempted to remove her harness, Moochie escalated to snapping persistently. When on walks Moochie allows gentle petting and is social with staff. Medically, Moochie has dental disease.

Ronnie is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Ronnie came into our Care center as a stray. During intake Ronnie was tense bodied, whale eyeing handlers and growling. During his stay in the Care center, Ronnie has been observed to hard bark, jumping on his door as dogs pass his kennel. With time and a slow approach, Ronnie has shown improvement in sociability. In a recently handling assessment Ronnie was noted to be social with staff, allow contact, and be treat receptive. Medically, Ronnie has periodontal disease and pyoderma.

Milo

Milo is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Milo came into the care center as an owner surrender. During his intake, when staff approached Milo he had shown reactivity including hard barking, lunging, and low growling towards them. While in the Care center Milo has shown dog reactivity fixating on them while hard barking with a tense body. He has been showing kennel reactivity pulling hard towards the passing kennels. When first in shelter Milo would snap at the leash and whale eye at handlers in kennel when attempting to leash him. With time Milo has warmed up to staff. He is now receptive to treats and solicits pets from familiar handlers. Milo has also shown some progress with the use of engage/disengage pattern games. Owner reported he knows various verbal commands. Also he's very affectionate and loves to cuddle. His favorite game is tug of war and he likes to do tricks for treats. Medically, Milo is apparently healthy.

La Princesa is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Initially, La Princesa was observed to be fearful in the care center; noted to have a tense low body, firmly tucked tail, and is reluctant to approach handlers. With time and a slow approach, La Princesa has shown some improvement, walking on leash more consistently and is social with select handlers. Medically La Princesa is apparently healthy.

Hazel

Hazel is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Hazel's previous owner noted she is friendly and outgoing. Upon arrival Hazel was noted to be social with staff, allowed handling and understood basic commands such as 'sit' and 'paw'. While in the kennel environment Hazel was initially fearful of handlers approaching her in kennel, but she has shown significant improvement in sociability. Despite these improvements, Hazel has been kennel reactive, while not consistent, when she shows reactivity to dogs in kennels- she will lunge with a tense body while hard barking. Hazel is also showing a decreasing threshold for arousal, noted to be consistently jumping on handlers and taking treats with moderate pressure in her recent handling assessment. Outside of the kennel environment Hazel continues to be social and treat receptive to handlers. Medically Hazel has undetermined allergies, alopecia, otitis chronic, and pyoderma.

Ru
|
|
Ru is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Ru arrived at the Care Center as a stray with limited history. It was reported Ru was found in a home with another dog, abandoned for several days without food or water. Both dogs were found with several bite wounds. During intake and handling assessment, Ru allowed all contact, was social with staff, and was treat motivated. Ru has not acclimated to the shelter environment well. Ru has begun consistently leash biting when handlers attempt to remove him from kennel and been observed to persistently bite kennel bars. Outside of kennel Ru remains social with staff, treat receptive, and walks well on leash. Medically, Ru is noted to have old wounds that are healing well, and is otherwise apparently healthy.

Celsius

Celsius is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Celsius in the care center will at times refuse to enter back into kennel, balking and pancaking in the hallways and when attempted to be taken outside on several occasions, will pancake and refuse to walk up to the ramp at times. Celsius is social with handlers, easily leashed, and is very affectionate, but is having trouble navigating the care center environment. Medically, Celsius is apparently healthy.

Euphrates is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Euphrates initially was observed to be fearful while in care. Noted to have a tense body and hard stare at the handler when they initiate contact. Throughout their stay at the care center, Euphrates has warmed up to handlers. Noted to check in with handlers while on walks and is receptive to treats. Recently Euphrates has been observed to have a low threshold for arousal. Noted to be rope reactive. Jumping up high, biting and tugging on the leash. This is not able to be easily redirected. Medically, Euphrates has undetermined allergies, alopecia, unspecified dermatitis, drop jaw (trigeminal neuritis) and a wound.

Yoyo

Yoyo has been placed on the at-risk list for medical issues. She has advanced, debilitating skin issues that are going to need diagnostics, care and support that we cannot provide. She also is showing high levels of fear, anxiety, and stress in the shelter which makes treatment for her skin concerns very difficult. Yoyo would highly benefit being moved into a quiet low stress environment and have a treatment plan put in place.

Bluno is at risk for behavior reasons. Bluno is deteriorating in care, leash-biting when exiting the room, on walks, and when staff attempt to end a socialization session. He has become increasingly mouthy during his stay. Bluno is otherwise a sweet and social dog who knows a number of basic cues. Medically, he is apparently healthy.

Teriyaki is at risk due to behavioral reasons. While in care, Teriyaki has been observed to be highly fearful. Noted to be tense and trembling when the handler interacts with them. During intake, Teriyaki was observed to thrash intensely and growl at the handler. With time and a slow approach, Teriyaki has shown improved sociability with staff; recently noted to approach staff and allow petting with a soft body when in play-yard outside of the shelter environment. Medically, teriyaki is apparently healthy.

In the care center, Oreo Cakester displays fear and handling sensitivity, including growling, snapping at the leash, avoidance during collaring, and tense during interactions that includes hard staring and trembling at staff. Oreo Cakester has also not been wanting to return to kennel, thrashing on leash and grabbing at a handler’s leg when returning to the kennel. Oreo Cakester is able to approach familiar handlers, accept petting, with some more familiar staff, but struggles to acclimate. Medically, Oreo Cakester is apparently healthy.

In the care center, Zillie Billie shows high stress when being walked, including thrashing, vocalizing, balking, and clinging to handlers. Zillie in kennel is observed to vocalize, try to flee once put into kennel, and refuse to go back into kennel at times. Zillie Billie is social with handlers, seeks out contact, and accepts petting in lower-stress moments. Medically, Zillie Billie is apparently healthy.

Falafel is on the at risk list for medical reasons. Falafel is an older cat who presented underweight and with moderate dental disease. Intake diagnostics showed an elevated white blood cell count which could be indicative of neoplasia. Falafel would benefit from rapid shelter exit and work up at full service veterinary hospital. Falafel is a sweet boy who has allowed for handling.

Jasper is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Max With The Brows (Max WTB) is at risk due to behavioral concerns. He arrived at the Care Center as an owner surrender. His previous owner notes that he is social with familiar people and understands basic commands such as 'sit' and 'stay'. Max WTB has not acclimated well to life in the care center. Max WTB has been fearful of handlers, reported to growl at times when approached by unfamiliar staff. With time and a slow approach, Max WTB has warmed up to select staff, is more easily leashed for walks and has allowed contact. Despite some improvement in sociability, Max WTB is often difficult to return to kennel, requiring the assistance of a secondary handler. Medically, Max WTB is noted to be overweight but is otherwise apparently healthy.

In the care center, April displays high level of fearfulness and defensive behavior, including growling, barking, snapping at the leash, avoiding handling, and fleeing to the back of the kennel. She also shows frantic pulling, jumping at walls and doors, and persistent exit-seeking during interactions. April is able to be leashed and moved with patience and will follow handlers once out of the kennel, and sometimes does seek comfort but is struggling to acclimate. Medically, April is apparently healthy.

In the care center, Garlic Knot displays high arousal and poor impulse control, including jumping, leash biting, mouthing handlers, and persistent pulling, with difficulty stopping these behaviors without constant food redirection. He also engages in mounting behaviors and escalates quickly when reinforcement is not being given persistently. Garlic Knot is highly social, engages with handlers and enrichment, and responds to training when consistent reinforcement is provided but is struggling to maintain his arousal levels on his own. Medically, Garlic Knot has CIRDC and a mass on his right lip commissure.

In the care center, Jazz is significantly fearful in the care center, including growling, trembling, and avoidance of handling attempts and would not want to come out of kennel. Jazz during interactions will hide, growl when new handlers approach and remain trembling/low bodied. Jazz recently has been coming out of kennel on her own, and warming up to select staff by allowing contact but is still extremely shutdown in the care center. Medically, Jazz is apparently healthy.

In the care center, Don displays leash biting, high arousal in the kennel, and reactivity toward dogs and strangers, including tensing and raised hackles. He also shows heavy panting and does not reliably take food when stressed. Don in his previous home is noted to lunge at strangers, children and other dogs on walks. Don is able to be leashed, enjoys walks, and seeks out petting and contact with handlers in some interactions. Medically, Don is apparently healthy.
