She can usually be found where the people are. Lucee is very active and playful and is used to interactive playtime multiple times per day. She likes to stalk and chase bugs and feet and play fetch. Lucee plays rough with nails extended and bites/scratches people. When on her own she likes to scratch on carpet/fabric- she may get the furniture. Lucee tends to cry/meow a lot, escape the house, and nip/swat when pet for too long. She is used to eating dry food and using unscented, clumping, clay litter. Upon intake Lucee allowed all handling at first, but when staff went to close her in the den she began to hiss.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 8/1/26 Vol. on top of den sitting sideways and looking out the front at me when approached, spoken to and door opened. Has stuffy nose. Offered dry treats on scratcher tool. Sniffed. Left treats on den in front of her. Sniffed and ate treats. Came down from den and to the front. Meowing. Offered more treats to her. Meow/growling just before and when she had picked up a treat in her mouth. she leaned away from petting when trying to pet with scratcher tool.  8/6/26 Vol. Lucee is in her den. In lifting the cover to get a visual, she was found head up front, pupils neutral, ears up, whiskers back. The tool was passed slowly through the portal, and she showed no interest in the treat, and hissed when an attempt was made to pet her with it. She then calmed down, but no attempt was made to pet by hand through the portal. Still adjusting. 8/16/26 Vol. Earlier, was at the front of the kennel, chirping. Later, was resting in cubby, peering out the portal. Came out to eat cup of Temptations and squeeze-up on top shelf. While changing linens, hopped down to investigate. Sniffed my hand and ate more squeeze-up, but shied away from head scratches. Tail was swishing with occasional chirps, but continued to enjoy squeeze-up. Remained at the front after the door was closed, chirping. 8/26/26 Vol. Lucee was lying in cubby with her head poking into main kennel. She came out into main kennel to eat squeeze up. She looked up and gave a small stressed-sounding meow while eating. She played interactively with a pipe cleaner toy, swatting at it energetically. She swiped near my hands a few times while playing, but it did not appear intentional. After two minutes or so, Lucee pulled the toy away and took it into her cubby to play by herself. 9/10/26 Curious, engaged at the front with loose body, tail high. She head bunts the hand and purrs throughout the interaction. Ate offered treats. When petted along the body she squeaked and hissed. However, she continued to seek attention. Ended to prevent possible escalation.

Potential challenges comments:: See relevant behavior flyers. Lucee was reported to play rough in her previous home, which led to bite and scratch incidents. She is an active cat that tends to put her teeth on skin and/or swipe without retracting claws. Although this appears to be motivated by play, it is important to note that this behavior occurs and that she may also be easily overstimulated. We recommend daily rigorous play with fishing pole-type toys and ending play sessions before Lucee becomes overstimulated or if she begins to target human hands or feet. We also recommend using puzzle feeders to keep Lucee engaged and to exercise her brain in addition to her body.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 10/1/20 Lucee is a sweet, social kitty who solicits attention, adores treats, and a weirdo. She will come forward when approaching her kennel, kneading and chirping at the assessor. Her tail quivers and she rubs against her kennel when sweet talked. She is accepting of all petting, kneading and even standing on her hind legs to head butt the assessor's hand. She also takes treats in this weird way but is a very cute sight. She allows pick up and wiggles a bit but is tolerant overall. 7/27/26 Lucee is sitting upright on top of her den, close to the back wall, eyes wide and ears forward as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened and she is softly spoken to, she meows softly, remaining on top of the den. When petting is attempted, she is able to be briefly pet on the head before she gives a light hiss and pulls back to avoid contact. She is offered a squeeze up and quickly begins eating it. Petting is attempted once more with the scratcher tool and Lucee is tolerant of some petting on the head and cheeks but leans away and vocalizes when she is pet. Although Lucee is unable to be coaxed down from the top of the den and remains tense, she does return slow blinks after a couple minutes of soft talk. Pickup is not attempted due to observed behavior. 8/27/26 Lucee is resting in her cubby with her head poking out of the portal. She pokes her head out further for squeeze up but cannot be coaxed out fully into the main area, looking at the assessor and hissing softly. Lucee grumbles while she eats. She sniffs offered scratcher tool and tolerates a brief pet on her cheek before lightly batting the tool. She continues to bat softly at the tool when pet along her body, backing up into the cubby. She recovers quickly once the tool is removed and eats more squeeze up. Lucee tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to an adult only home with experienced cat parents.
