Bambi
Hello, my name is Bambi. My animal id is #266319. I am a male gray tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 9/24/2026.
Bambi needs at risk placement for medical reasons. He is a sweet but nervous cat who is not eating consistently in shelter. We suspect this is due to severe periodontal disease and stress. He needs a dentistry with extractions and a low stress environment to recover.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...
This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Bambi needs at risk placement for medical reasons. I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.

Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Bambi was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Calm,Timid
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Bambi should be given a slow introduction to the home, one room at a time starting in a small room like a bathroom with food, litter and water. Interact with him in this room until he seems sufficiently confident that you feel you can introduce him to the next part of the home without running the risk that he will hide. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to help introduce your cat to the home. Please note that Bambi is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
RECOMMENDATIONS:: No young children
Recommendations comments:: No young children under 5 years old, Counselor discretion advised.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Bambi was lying curled up in his den with dilated eyes and forward ears. He looked up at the handler but showed no interest in the treats offered to him. When petting along his head and body, his body tensed but he remained calm. When adding pressure to his chest and side to simulate pick up, he remained tense but calm despite a dog barking loudly close by. Bambi tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.
