His fear and anxiety are high, and he needs a low stress place to convalesce. What my friends at ACC say about me: I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Zoe Zoe tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 5-10y Microchip noted on Intake? scanned negative History: Owner called police to remove the cat after he was behaving aggressively Subjective: BAR Observed Behavior -Hissing and kicking when attempting to remove from kennel. Fractured nails on back paws. Elected sedation to decrease FAS and allow for assessing of wounds. Behavior Assessment

KNOWN HISTORY:: Zoe Zoe name was brought in without information on his behavior history in a home environment. Zoe Zoe was stated to have been picked up from the owner's home due to aggression towards the owner. The police were called to remove the cat. They stated that Zoe Zoe had not been difficult to remove from residence to transport to MACC, no further details were provided.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/8/26 Vol. He was poking his head out of his privacy den when I approached kennel. He immediately started to hiss at me. He angry-swatted at the clicker with Squeeze-ups. Growled and swatted at the laser and the cat dancer when I tried to get him to play. I ended the interaction to avoid FAS. 9/11/26 Vol. In hidey box, clear front with towel over it so could see bits and pieces. Put in treat bowl, he lunged inside box and then sat with side against box entry. Approached with hard treat on scratcher tool - saw a bit of nose and whiskers and then he pulled back again - still able to see side. Let tool rest, no movement or reaction. Removed and ended interaction. Saw he rearranged himself in the box, still up again entry. 9/13/26 Vol. Zoe Zoe started low growling as soon as I opened the kennel door and kept low growling while I talked; so, I ended the interaction.

Potential challenges comments:: See relevant behavior flyers. Zoe Zoe has shown a strong dislike or aversion to carriers because of prior owner notes. To work on this challenge, start by leaving the carrier out and open with a cozy blanket or towel and treats. Let your cat inspect it. Try feeding your cat at mealtime increasingly close to the door. Once he can eat by the door try feeding inside the carrier. When he is comfortable inside the carrier you should try briefly closing the door. If the cat panics, open the door right away. The goal should be able to leave the door shut for increasing amounts of time over many days, until he seems generally comfortable in the carrier. If he becomes upset then you’re working too quickly. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Zoe Zoe is laying towards the front of the den, body tense and observing the assessor with wide eyes and dilated pupils as they approach. When the kennel door is opened, he hisses, backing away and beginning to low growl. Petting is attempted with the scratcher tool, and Zoe is tolerant of petting on the head, cheeks, and down his back, but leans away to avoid contact and remains tense. As the tool is slowly removed, Zoe Zoe hisses and swats at it. He continues to low growl throughout the interaction. Pickup is not attempted due to observed behavior. Zoe Zoe tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
