Emergency Placement Animals

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Animal Care Centers of NYC. Our emergency placement animals are posted three times a week, on the evenings of Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6:00PM and remain viewable for 42 hours.

Schedule overview:
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Sunday evening will be viewable until Tuesday at 12:00PM noon.
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Tuesday evening will be viewable until Thursday at 12:00PM noon.
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Thursday evening will be viewable until Saturday at 12:00PM noon.

If this is your first time visiting this site, please read the below information carefully.

For anyone who wishes to adopt, there is a mandatory deposit fee of $200 plus a transaction fee per animal to place an adoption reservation. The $200 covers $50 toward the adoption fee and $150 for the spay/neuter deposit. If the animal has already been spayed or neutered or is permanently waived by one of our veterinarians, the $150 deposit will be refunded at the time of the adoption. If the animal does need to leave without being spayed or neutered due to his/her medical condition, the $150 deposit will be refunded at the time they are brought back for the spay/neuter surgery or when proof of sterilization being done elsewhere is provided to ACC. If you do not follow through with the adoption, the entire $200 deposit will be considered a charitable donation to ACC's Special Treatment and Recovery Fund (STAR). Also, if the adoption fee for an animal is less than $50, the difference will be considered a charitable donation to the STAR Fund. Similarly, in-shelter pricing promotions do not apply to emergency placement animals.

To complete an adoption, please click reserve on the animal of your choice. That animal will be loaded in your cart and you will have 15 minutes to complete the adoption process. In order to complete your reservation, you need to check out (top right corner). At this point, you will enter in your credit card information and a receipt will be emailed to you as confirmation of your reservation. Jules is on the emergency placement list due to his behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. Kermit needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Outside of the Care Centers, Kermit is a sociable dog who greatly enjoys treats. Nonetheless, he is struggling with the stress of the current environment. There have been instances where he snapped and grabbed a staff slip lead, and he accidentally bit a staff member, although no skin was broken. Medically, Kermit is apparently healthy.

S'Getti needs emergency placement for behavior concerns. S'Getti during his time in care has been aloof with select handlers and has escalated to growling/lip curling at select staff members. Medically, S'Getti has recently recovered from pneumonia.

Chocolate Flan is in need of emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Chocolate Flan has been observed to display social arousal, leading to heightened anxiety and frustration. This has resulted in jumping on staff members, with one incident causing a staff member to be knocked down. However, during moments of calmness, Chocolate Flan responds to the "sit" cue. Diva needs emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. Diva has been deteriorating while in care. Despite attempts to keep her comfortable, he has become increasingly over-aroused in the care center, jumping up repeatedly onto staff and leash biting. As a result, it is difficult to walk her safely. Medically, she is healthy.

Martin has begun leash biting intensely when out for walks with staff and is hard to be refocused. Martin is a social dog who is affectionate with staff. Medically, Martin is apparently healthy.

Eggbert is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Eggbert was brought to the Care Centers due to a bite incident. He had bitten his owner during an attempt to intervene in a scuffle with another dog, resulting in a break in the skin. Within the Care Centers, Eggbert exhibits fear and is tense. However, with a slow approach, Eggbert warms up with treats. Medically, Eggbert has alopecia, otitis external, and pyoderma.

Atreus is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Atreus in care has been deteriorating despite best efforts to keep him comfortable. Atreus has begun licking his water bowl excessively and cage fighting with other dogs when entering and exiting kennel rooms. Medically, Atreus is healthy.

Groot needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. He has a low threshold for arousal and is quick to leash bite during walks and head whip when touched. Recently, Groot began to kennel fight and redirect his frustration onto staff leashes. When he is calm, he takes treats and listens to the cue sit. Medically, Groot has CIRDC, otitis externa, dermatitis, pododermatitis, interdigital cysts, and allergies.

Luna needs emergency placement for behavioral reasons. Luna was surrendered due to behavior issues in the home. She seems to be triggered by closing doors and has escalated to higher-level warnings. In the care center, she is highly anxious and not eating consistently. Luna resource guards' items of high value, including food and toys. Medically, Luna has a mass on her abdomen and a fractured canine tooth.

Tony needs emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. Tony is struggling with the stress of his environment and was noticed resisting returning to his kennel. Reports indicate he exhibited pancaking behavior, pulling away or flipping his head, which nearly caused the slip lead to loosen once. However, outdoors, Tony is sociable with staff and actively participates in cue training. Medically, Tony is underweight and has dermatitis.

Chives needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Chives is a sociable dog who actively participates in cue training with staff and enjoys rough play with other dogs. However, despite receiving daily enrichment and mental stimulation, Chives is struggling with the stress of the environment. Inside the kennel, Chives vocalizes loudly and consistently paws at the food slot with moderate pressure. Medically, Chives has a wound on his right lateral thigh which is currently being treated for repair.

Houdini
Houdini needs emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. While Houdini has been highly social with staff and caretakers, he is beginning to deteriorate behaviorally as his length of stay increases. He enjoys treats, petting, and engaging in puzzle/enrichment toys. Houdini is becoming difficult to remove from his kennel due to leash biting, resulting in him grabbing a staff member's hand in the process. When out on walks, Houdini has become reactive and can be difficult to refocus at times. While in his kennel, Houdini licks the kennel bars. Medically, Houdini is receiving treatment for ongoing CIRDC symtoms.

Cookie needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Cookie was noticed lunging, snapping, and attempting to bite when staff were trying to remove her from the kennel. However, Cookie briefly displayed some social behavior when the staff moved slowly. Medically, Cookie is healthy.

Bolt
Bolt is in need of emergency placement for behavior reasons. A child recently moved into the home and Bolt has begun to resource guard the child's toys. When the owner attempts to manage him by separating him, he will destroy furniture or doors. Bolt is highly fearful when meeting new people and will escalate to barking, growling or snapping. On intake Bolt was showing defensive behaviors. When pressure was applied to his neck with slip leads, he panicked and began to alligator roll and chew through a handler's leash. Minimal handling has been done with Bolt in the care center. Medically, Bolt is reported to be deaf.

Zack needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Zack was noted to participate in kennel fighting, often lunging and hard barking at neighboring dogs. There was one incident where Zack redirected his reactivity towards a staff member, biting them on the arm and causing two puncture wounds. Zack is social with staff and takes treats outside of the kennel and Care Center. Medically, Zack is healthy.

Mercari needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Mercari is highly fearful and has escalated to thrashing and snapping at staff. She does not take treats but she is aloof on her walks. Medically, Mercari is underweight.

Stormi
Stormi needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Stormi has exhibited social arousal with staff and has occasionally escalated to mouthing their body, particularly their legs, with moderate pressure. At times, she has displayed fixation on certain staff members, jumping towards their faces with an open mouth. On other occasions, Stormi has become tense and grumbled at unfamiliar staff. Medically, Stormi has CIRDC and is under treatment.
