Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with RINGWORM and the staff veterinarians are issuing a TEMPORARY waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment through to the resolution of the issue. At the time of a full recovery you may choose to have your veterinarian perform the spay/neuter surgery, or make provisions to return the pet to ACC for sterilization.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Silver was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/15/25 FB61 Lying in back of kennel upon approach in a kitten pile, all siblings relaxing with their ears forward and their arms and tail stretched away from them. When I open the kennel door they scatter - some retreating to their perch and some pressing themselves against the back of the kennel. I do not push petting today, instead I offer many toys which they all show curiosity towards immediately. After I close the kennel door I see the litter of kittens all playing enthusiastically. Engaging in playtime is going to help them gain confidence which may be able to translate over to them approaching me with more curiosity and less fear in later sessions. 10/17/25 FB61 Hunched in back of kennel, huddled next to litter-mates with a tense body and face. Today they tolerate petting while flinching (some a bit harder than others) but no one retreats!! They are all rewarded with squeeze-ups which they eat immediately. There were also no attempts to flee after the kennel doors initially opened. This litter appears to be quite food-motivated and is showing some improvement already! 10/21/25 FB58 Sitting in the middle of the cage next to Cobalt with a slightly tense face and body. He is wary of touch and petting but is more tolerant than Cobalt and watches me with wide eyes but allows some touch and pets. I am almost able to do a full pick up but he begins to scramble and I don't push it. Both show some interest as I push a toy back and forth but I am not able to win them over.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Silver was lying in the back of his kennel as the assessor approached, body low and face tense. Silver avoided eye contact when spoken to, pupils dilated and he flattened his ears as the kennel door opened. Silver tolerated petting along his head and body while flinching and retreating to the other side of his kennel with a low body and tail. Pick up was not attempted at this time to reduce stress. Silver appears to be fearful and may not have had much human interaction up to this point. During the assessment he displayed distance increasing behaviors and would benefit from extra socialization. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents who are preferably familiar with kitten socialization or are open to detailed counseling by staff. Contact with young children should be avoided or done under strict supervision to prevent provoking a fear response, further delaying socialization.
