She was described as sometimes biting and scratching during regular play sessions (likely overstimulation/rough play) but otherwise had no prior incidents. Owner stated that the bite incident occurred when she was cooking and the blender was turned on and that all of the bite victims received medical attention at the hospital. She stated that Oreo had been around previously during cooking/use of the blender without issue until this incident. Behaviors exhibited during bite incident had only begun over those few days and she was described as not having prior issues or incidents.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/2/26 FB73 Oreo is laying curled up on top of her den, head resting on her front paws, looking at the handler with lightly dilated pupils as they approach. She allows petting on the head and cheeks with the scratcher tool but leans away and tenses when she is pet down her shoulders and back.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation,Fearful,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Oreo has a bite/scratch history. Please see known history. Oreo has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. Oreo appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior, we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to bite/scratch history, adult only home.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Oreo is laying curled up on top of her den, eyes closed and ears forward as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened, she opens her eyes and lifts her head, body tense and pupils dilated. Petting is attempted with the scratcher tool, and she is tolerant of brief petting on the head before leaning away, squinting, pressing herself against the back corner, and lifting a paw as if to swat. Treats are offered but she does not respond to them, lightly swatting at the scratcher tool. Interaction is ended to reduce FAS. Oreo is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time. She may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed.
