Hello, my name is Bionica. My animal id is #261698. I am a male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 6 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 8/5/2026.

Bionica is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Estimated age: ~1-2 years based on dentition and secondary sex characteristics Microchip noted on Intake? scanned negative History: Stray; finder could not keep due to allergies Subjective: BAR in feral den, growling and hissing, striking at the front of the den. Observed Behavior - Elected to sedate with 0.1ml telazol IM. This provided adequate sedation. Evidence of suspected cruelty seen? – None Objective: BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Clean adult dentition PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, MM pink/moist, CRT < 2, lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non-painful, no masses palpated U/G: Intact male; 2 testicles palpated in scrotum MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Externally clean Wood's Lamp Exam: Not performed Assessment: Apparently healthy Prognosis: Good Plan: 100mg gabapentin PO BID indefinitely while in shelter for FAS SURGERY: Okay for surgery

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Bionica should be given a slow introduction to the home, one room at a time starting in a small room like a bathroom with food, litter and water. Interact with him in this room until he seems sufficiently confident that you feel you can introduce him to the next part of the home without running the risk that he will hide. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to help introduce your cat to the home. Bionica has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Bionica was crouched in the back of his den with dilated eyes and forward ears. He began licking his lips once the door opened and started stress meowing. After the handler waited for him to calm down, they offered him treats on a click stick. He hissed and began stress meowing again. He then lunged at the den cover. The interaction was ended to reduce FAS. Bionica is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat / scratch / is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
