Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 7/30/26: Korovka is introduced to a novel intact male and approaches the gate with a loose body and mid level wags. She sniffs nose to nose through the fence and then disengages and sniffs around the catch pen. When let into the yard she first approaches and interacts with handlers. The other dog flags over to her and the two engage in mutual sniffing. The other dog stands over her and then begins mounting her. She does not react or correct him, but lip licks and gives whale eye. The other dog is pulled away and Korovka explores the yard. She is then introduced to a novel neutered male and approaches the fence with a loose body and mid level wags. She toe taps and gives a couple whines at the handler. The other dog is brought into the yard and the two circle and sniff. He attempts start stop play but Korovka is only interest in sniffing his genitals, following him around the yard. She remains loose but does stiffen slightly with a closed mouth when the other dog solicits play in close proximity. 7/25/26: Korovka is introduced to a novel intact male and approaches the fence with a loose body and mid level wagging tail. She sniffs the other dog through the fence remaining soft but freezes once the other dog begins muzzle punching the fence. She remains non reactive but does stand nearby staring at the other dog. She is then introduced to a novel intact female and approaches the gate with a loose body and mid level wags. She hops around the yard and then begins demand barking at the handler. She remains soft towards the other dog but focuses on the handler, barking at them to come into the yard. The other dog is let in the yard and Korovka is tolerant of the other dog bumping into her, leaping on her, and generally being in her face. Korovka disengages and interacts with handlers before reapproaching and following the other dog around the yard. She is forward leaning and does chin overs remaining loose but frequently walks away on her own. The other dog continues to jump on her and mouth her face and ears and Korovka remains tolerant throughout.

Summary (6):: 8/1/26: ACS staff report that Korovka would jump to try and grab there sleeve as they were coaxing her on a walk and when a behavior staff member help she begins to try and nip at there ankles. 7/31/26: Korovka is taken out for her evening walk. She is lying in her crate and takes a minute to get up. She is easily leashed and brought out to the street, she does not jump up on the handler while exiting. Korovka pancakes and pees in the hallway before being brought to the street. She is calm when other dogs pass and shows no reactivity to people. Korovka does the rest of her business and is taken back to her crate where she easily enters with mild leash pressure and immediately lies back down. 7/29/26: Walked Korovka w/ a toy and only hooking the top of her harness and she was jumping and nipping less. Could have some touch sensitivity in her neck/chest area. 7/29/26: It has been noted on the whiteboard that Korovka is "jumping up with an open mouth towards the handler. Seems to try to grab arm. settles down immediately after" 7/28: PM walk Korovka didn't jump or nip during leashing or walking. She solicited attention from handler and is easily leashed and brought outside. During the walk she was calm and curious sniffing people and things on the walk. When reentering the office, she immediately entered her crate and laid down, was easily unleashed and was rewarded. 7/28/26: During the last few walks, Korovka has been nipping at hands, feet, jumping up and nipping sides/abdomen, and leash biting. Sometimes she is easily redirected with toys but only for a few minutes. Additionally, she is continued to show pretty serious balance issues including landing on her back and head when she jumps up. Yesterday, she reportedly would sit with her paw raised like she was in pain. This behavior is not shown on every walk. On other walks she's very calm and playful but doesn't display any nippy or jumping behavior. She doesn't leash pull and consistently checks back in with handler as they walk. She is interested in people and solicits attention calmly.

Summary (7):: 7/27/26: Korovka is lying in her crate as handler approaches. She is easily leashed and taken for a street walk. She maintains a neutral body while on walk and walks slowly. She lags behind a few times and sits down for a little while before handler gets her going again. About halfway thru the walk she jumped towards handler and tried to grab the spare leash handler had draped on themself. She is retuned to kennel with no issue. 7/25/26: During our daily walks, Korovka has displayed more jumping and nipping. When she jumps, she falls backwards onto her spine and sometimes her head. On walks she takes frequent sitting breaks and seems unable to keep going at certain times. 7/24/26: Korovka is reported to jump and mouth the handler's leash and shirt when being brought out. 7/23/26: When being walked today she was jumping up trying to grab the leash and nipping at my arms. 7/19/26 (Assessment): Korovka was at the front of her crate with a neutral body as handler approached. She was easily leashed and taken for a brief street walk before her assessment (Please see assessment notes for details). She walked next to handler with a slack leash. When she went past the dogs in kennels and crates she would lower herself and look away when they barked at her. She displayed no reactivity to dogs and people on she passed on the street. When returning to kennel she paused at crate door and handler gave her a little nudge and she entered. 7/16/2026: Korovka was placed in the adoptions/volunteer office on 7/16. Korovka had a wiggly body when handler approached her crate. She began barking excitedly as the handler opened the crate. Korovka was easily leashed and continued to have a soft body with the handler. She was a bit hesitant walking out of the office but began walking when the handler used baby noises. Korovka trotted clumsily and continued to bump into items along the way. She seemed to prefer staying on the handler's right side. Walking down the stairs, Korovka was doing a combination of trotting and skipping/sliding down a step. Outside, she walked near the handler but zig zagged throughout the walk and stopped at doors. She checked in with handler and peed on the way back. Korovka greeted another staff member with a wiggly body and walked back into the office without an issue. Korovka took some time getting back into the crate and began jumping high; Korovka was not interested in treats being tossed but when a toy was tossed in the crate, Korovka trotted into the crate. 07/16/26: Korovka is noted to bark in her crate and display heavy panting, when taken out of her crate to walk around the office she display heavy panting and barking unable to settle.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Korovka so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to her low threshold for arousal, we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Korovka is noted to jump on handlers often for attention. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners. Anxiety: In the care center, Korovka is noted to bark in her crate and display heavy panting, when taken out of her crate to walk around the office she displays heavy panting and barking unable to settle. If Korovka displays anxious behavior in their future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving them other things to focus on to alleviate their anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety. Leash Biting: It is reported that Korovka is biting the leash while on walks. We recommend walking them with a toy to dissuade them from grabbing the leash. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach them to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners. Arousal: Korovka has been observed to quickly become over aroused. Noted to mouth handlers' clothing, nip their sides/abdomen, and nip their arms. Positive reinforcement training should be used to teach Korovka to remain calm during arousing situations. If they begin to escalate, people should pause the interaction, and create distance from the trigger. Pattern games such as 1-2-3 treat and the cue “mat” can be used to reinforce calm behaviors.
