Pre-Screener FormFoxy is at risk due to behavioral reasons. While in foster Foxy was observed to bark and lunge towards other dogs. Recently her previous adopter stated that Foxy would growl, hard bark, and lunge towards strangers as well as other stimuli, such as strollers. It was stated that Foxy will bark, growl, whine, and pull hard towards them. While in care, Foxy has shown dog reactivity with difficulty being redirected. In other instances, Foxy remains engaged with the handler while on walks. When interacting with handlers, Foxy is exuberant and will lean into contact. Medically, Foxy is apparently healthy.

My foster writes: Foxy is a sweet, affectionate, and fully potty-trained girl who loves spending time with people. She's calm and well-mannered in the home, enjoys relaxing by your side, and is always happy to soak up attention and affection. Foxy would thrive with an adopter who can continue building her confidence and provide her with a consistent routine. If you're looking for a loyal companion with lots of love to give, Foxy may be the perfect match for you! What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. I will need daily physical activity to keep me healthy and happy!

The novel male dog he sniffed the ground with a neutral body posture. When the novel male enters the play yard, Foxy began hard barking and lunging toward the novel male dog. She continued to hard bark and lunge forward with raised hackles and a forward body posture. Throughout the interaction, the male dog remained focused on ground sniffing, maintained a neutral posture, and did not engage with Foxy. Foxy remain barking and is taken out of view where she continues to bark.
Summary (5):: 7/2/26: Foxy is at he front of her kennel, jumping up and the kennel door and barking; the handler lures her with a treat, leashes her and brings her out the room. On the street, Foxy walks ahead with mild to moderate leash tension; she doesn't react to dogs or passersby. Foxy engages with the handler; she jumps on them with a soft body and allows pets. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Foxy to her kennel with ease. 7/1/26 (PM walk): When handler was returning Foxy she started trashing on the leash and twisting it around her neck causing herself chocking. They had to muscle her back into the kennel due to possible escalation (she wouldn't stop and her mouth was wide open next to the handler's hand) She also was observed hard barking and pacing in the kennel after.
Summary (6):: 6/22/26: Foxy was jumping at front of kennel as handler approached. She was easily leashed and pulled from kennel and taken to the backyard. Handler played 123 game with Foxy. She was too distracted by everything happening in the yard to focus on the pattern game. She was returned to kennel with no issue.
Summary (7):: 06/18/26: Foxy is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is offered a treat and sniffs it but does not accept it, he does however allow leashing and walks with handler to the yard. Outside he is exuberant and walks with handler around the perimeter of the yard, sniffing and turning toward handler bouncing around exuberantly. Foxy jumps on the yard bench and allows petting, leaning into chin and neck rubs before continuing to exuberantly run around the play yard. Foxy allows handler to collar him and place him on a drag leash and tosses some tennis balls around which Foxy chases briefly but does not pick up. Foxy relieves himself outside and after a while is brought back inside, he allows handler to clip his leash and pulls hard to return to kennel. Interaction is ended shortly after. 06/16/26: Foxy is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, he jumps up and down and spins around in kennel while barking before being distracted and leashed with treats. Foxy exits kennel exuberantly and walks with handler out to the yard for his walk. Outside Foxy pulls moderately and walks around the perimeter of the yard sniffing and relieving herself along the way. Foxy exuberantly bounces around the yard and will pull toward and sniff at dogs he sees outside. Foxy will hard bark at dogs he sees and is difficult to redirect. When asked to sit Foxy will sit but he does not accept a treat afterward, after sitting on one of the benches outside Foxy approaches and leans into handler soliciting pets and social interaction. Foxy's leash is clipped and he is returned to kennel without issue. 6/7/26 (Assessment): Foxy was at front of kennel jumping and vocalizing as handler approached. She was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. She was taken for a brief street walk before her assessment. While we saw no dogs during the walk Foxy displayed no reactivity to people. Summary:: Allowed all handling
Date of initial:: 6/14/2026
ENERGY LEVEL:: Foxy is described as medium energy. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for them.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to her handling sensitivity and defensive behavior we recommend an adult only home. No Dog Parks: Due to her on leash reactivity we recommend no trips to the dog park. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Basic Manners/Poor Impulse Control: During her assessment Foxy was observed to jump socially on handlers and paw at them seeking attention. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners and Poor Impulse Control. Handling/Touch Sensitivity: During medical exams staff reported that Foxy would flail when staff attempted to muzzle her. During her assessment Roxy was observed to head whip with an open mouth during exuberant contact. It is important to always go slow and give Foxy the option to walk away from any social interaction. Foxy should never be forced to approach anything that she/he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Foxy’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Foxy may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings. Please see handout on Handling/Touch Sensitivity. Fearful Defensive: Roxy's foster stated that she will bark and growl when people enter the home. It is important to move slowly with Roxy, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. On Leash Reactivity: While in foster Foxy was observed to pull hard towards other dogs while barking and lunging. In her previous home Foxy also showed high levels of reactivity. Noted to growl, hard bark, and lunge towards strangers and dogs. When other stimuli such as strollers passed by Foxy would bark, growl, whine, and pull hard towards them. Foxy will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than dogs and other stimuli. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
