Bite history:: 8/25/26: Around 8:30 am, the rangers decided to feed both dogs at the same time. MMB 1, Tenzin, finished eating his food, and MMB 2, Ethan, had stopped eating, walked away from his bowl, and left some food behind. MMB 1, Tenzin, walked over to Ethan's food bowl and started to eat his food. Both dogs began fighting. During the commotion, 1 Ranger attempted to separate the dogs and grabbed Ethan's collar; another ranger placed a plastic chair between the dogs, and the 1st ranger was bitten on their left forearm. The ranger is unsure which dog bit them. The bite was a bite and release, and it broke skin. The ranger sought medical attention at Lenox Hill Hospital.

Summary:: Ethan was brought to MACC following a bite incident. Due to the multiple bite incident that occurred, Ethan is not a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is limited prior dog-to-dog history recorded. Ethan came in following a bite incident with a novel male intact medium mixed breed dog over food, involving a bite and release redirection towards a person. It is unknown which dog bit. 9/12/26: Ethan is introduced to a novel intact female and is tense at the gate with a mid level flagged tail. He wiggles towards a handler through the fence, then freezes when nose to nose, tense with a tight closed mouth and perked ears. He continues to disengage and greet handlers, then tense when the other dog attempts interaction. He loosens minimally with time, continuing wide high wags when switching from interacting with the opposing handler to being nose to nose with the other dog through the fence.

Summary (6):: 9/12/26: Ethan is at the front of his kennel with a soft body and wagging tail; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. Ethan is brought to the yard for playgroup (see D2D notes); after the interaction, the handler walks Ethan around the perimeter. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Ethan to his kennel with ease. 9/05/26: Ethan is at the front of his kennel, barking and pawing at the door when handler approaches. He is easily leashed with treats and exits the room willingly with no reaction to neighboring dogs. Ethan follows the handler in the hallways and has no reaction to pop-up crates or staff members. When he gets to the driveway, he pulls hard toward certain area and relieves himself. Ethan continues walking slightly ahead of the handler with mild leash tension. He has no reaction to other dogs or people on the street. He is not responsive and is not engaged with handler remaining aloof most of the time. He gently takes treats and allows petting but is not seeking interaction. His body is neutral with soft face during the walk. Upon return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Ethan back into his kennel with no issues.

Summary (7):: 9/4/26: Ethan is standing at the front of his kennel and jumps up on the kennel door with a loose and wiggly body. He eats treats dropped and then attempts to push out of kennel when the door is opened and paws at the leash. The handler tosses treats and is able to secure the leash without issue. Ethan walks with moderate pulling out of the shelter, not reacting to neighboring kennels or pop up crates. In the yard, he allows the handler to collar him and place a drag line on him and independently explores. He is interested in other dogs, following them along the fence line with a loose wiggly body and mid level wags. He remains soft while attempting to sniff through the fence, and is easily redirected when called by the handler. He sits for treats and takes them gently, and leans in for all handling remaining loose. He plays fetch, bringing tennis balls back to the handler. He pulls moderately going back inside and enters kennel without issue, taking treats through the bars gently. 9/2/26: Ethan is standing in the middle of his kennel and approaches the front with a loose body and mid level wags. He eats treats dropped in his kennel, and is leashed without issue. Ethan walks with minimal pulling out of the kennels, scavenging for treats. In the play yard, Ethan uses the bathroom and takes treats from handlers. He fixates on dogs in other yards/walking by, pulling moderately with a forward leaning body and high wagging tail. He is redirectable vocally + with treats, then will continue pulling towards other dogs. He approaches the bench when the handler sits and climbs up as well, leaning in for pets. He is loose and wiggly for all pets and consistently seeks out more handling, climbing in the handler's lap. On the way back he pulls hard on leash, briefly looking towards other kennels but continues walking. He enters kennel without issue and takes treats. The leash is stuck on his paw, and he is non reactive, remaining loose and wiggly, as the leash is removed. 8/26/26: Ethan is lying at the back of the kennel with a neutral body when the handler approaches. The handler speaks to him with a high pitch and tosses treats. He approaches the front of the kennel readily and engages with the treats. Ethan has a neutral body and wagging tail. The handler tosses more treats and then ends the interaction.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Ethan so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
