Miku
Hello, my name is Miku. My animal id is #217566. I am a desexed female black cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12/27/2024, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.
Miku is on the at-risk list for medical reasons - Miku has a URI and anorexia. She has not improved on supportive care and will need hospitalization with placement.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...
This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Miku is on the at-risk list for medical reasons - Miku has a URI and anorexia. She has not improved on supportive care and will need hospitalization with placement. Miku is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Because her previous owner reports once comfortable with strangers she is friendly and outgoing, plays gently, allows pick up and spends her time around people in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet, but is really struggling in the shelter environment. This cat is suitable for an adult-only home with adopters with previous cat experience who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help her adjust to their new home.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/13/25 FB79 Inside of the den Miku has no reaction when i lift the den cover for a better view. She remains very still when i use the tool to pet on her head and cheeks and shows no interest in treats. 1/16/25 FB61 Sitting upright in back of kennel, body tense, face neutral, ears forward and tail curled around body. She vocalizes and slow-blinks hard as I open the kennel door and she continues to meow when spoken to. She is tolerant of petting today with the scratcher tool, however when pet along the head and shoulders she tilts her ears and begins to stress meow. I leave her some treats (she does not appear to have an appetite, likely due to her URI) and a catnip toy before ending the session.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 12/30/25 Miku was crouched in her cat den as the assessor approached, body and face tense, pupils dilated and tail wrapped tightly around her feet. Miku avoided eye contact when spoken to and she tolerated petting along her head and body with the scratcher tool from within her den while spinning in circles in her den and then quickly fleeing and retreating into her cubby. Nervous girl - needs more time to adjust. Pick up was not attempted at this time to reduce stress. 1/10/25 Upon meeting with Miku again, she is sitting outside next to her den and hisses as the assessor approaches with a tense face and body, eyes wide and dilated, and ears slightly tilted. When the cage door is opened, she ducks into the den and hisses some more. As the assessor slowly offers the scratcher tool into the den, she hisses and bites at the tool. The portal door is closed and the den cover is removed so the assessor is able to see everything that is happening. When the den door is lifted and they again introduce the scratcher tool, she tenses and hisses as she moves to the back of the den and bites at the tool and hisses as the assessor pets along her side lightly. When the Assess-A-Hand is introduced, she begins to hiss and swats at the tool multiple times before she attempts to bite at it.
