Chloe
Hello, my name is Chloe. My animal id is #235515. I am a desexed female white cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 8/29/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving - out of country.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormChloe is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/10/25 FB61 Chloe is a very talkative cat. She was at the front of her kennel as I approached and and she began focalizing immediately. Some of the vocalizations were normal and some of them were a bit drawn out like a stressed meow. Chloe appears to be a social eater and would start eating from her dry food bowl whenever I was speaking to her. She angry nommed adorably and she tolerated petting along her head and body with the scratcher tool while raising her tail and stressed meowing. Chloe is currently showing conflicted behaviors at this time. Chloe is a lot of fun to have a conversation with. 9/15/25 FB79 Chloe can be heard stress meowing and screaming when i entered the room and as i approach her kennel, she stands at the top of her den with a tense body, her eyes wide her ears tilted as she hisses and continues to yellll at me! She has no reaction to any treats that i toss in and looks like she is about to jump down/lung as i am offering high values and toys through the bars. Chloe is constantly hissing/stress meowing and yelling but when i approach her kennel she attempt to swat through the bars. I covered her kennel and she calmed down for a bit and then i heard her eating the treats that i previously offered. 10/01/25 FB06 Upon approach, Chloe is perched up on her kuranda bed, ears are forward, body is loose and curiously watching my hands as I unlock her kennel. She then comes down as I put the scratcher in the cage. She sniffed it and began swatting, hissing and biting it. She receded to the back of the cage and I proceeded to moved the scratcher towards her. Chloe gave a hiss and then leaned in for head scratches. I ended the interaction leaving her with treats.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Talkative
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Curious,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Rough play,Fearful,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Please see behavior flyers for more information. Chloe was described as "liking to chase and pounce on feet" in her previous home.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Chloe would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 9/2/25 Chloe was lying in her cat den as the assessor approached, ears forward, tail curled around feet and head resting on paws. Chloe raised her head when spoken to and she began chirping/trilling as the kennel door opened. Chloe leaned forward to sniff the assess-a-hand when offered and she tolerated petting along her head and cheeks while continuing to watch the hand and trying to keep in her line of sight/sniff it. Chloe began to stress meow when pet along her body and as petting was concentrated along her lower back she raised her paw and swatted the hand multiple times. Pick up was not attempted at this time to reduce stress. 9/18/25 Upon meeting with Chloe again, she is sitting loafed next to her den and has been given a double kennel. She begins to vocalize as she sees the assessor and stands with her ears slightly tilted and her tail raised swishing slowly back and forth. When the cage door is opened, her vocalizations become more stressed and louder and when she sees the Assess-A-Hand as it is slowly introduced into the den, she tenses with ears tilted fully, hissing and eyes wide with pupils dilated. When the fake hand is moved towards her, she hisses and swats at the hand hard multiple times with both paws. She then pins it down and bites it a couple times as well. When touch is attempted again, she continues to display this behavior and does not allow touch with the Assess-A-Hand. Pick up is not attempted and the interaction is ended to prevent further escalation. Chloe is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, bite, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
