Animal Profile

Allan

Hello, my name is Allan. My animal id is #235381. I am a desexed male gray cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a aco - impound on 8/27/2025.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Allan is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: Allan tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. A volunteer writes: Allan has taken to shelter life with an utmost seriousness that seems to be compensating for his confusion. He leaped to the front of his condo when I opened the door and bounced back just as fast. Lowering his head to hide behind his blanket as I stood there, I played along and pretended that I couldn't see him. Except, I could see him (mostly his ears) and also visible is the way Allan always tries even if he isn't completely sure what he's supposed to be doing. Found in a carrier with other cats abandoned outside a vet clinic, we don't know very much about Allan's life before and it's true that our efforts to get to know who he is now haven't gotten us very far. However, we have learned that Allan loves treats and snacks just might be the way to his heart.

Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue

KNOWN HISTORY:: Allan was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/14/25 FB79 At the top part of the kennel, Allan has a very serious handsome face with his paws tucked away and his tail loose as he leans sideways. He has no reaction when i speak or when i slow blink and when i toss in from treats for him he harshly hisses and has no interest. Allan continues to hiss when i bring in the pointer tool and starts to low grumble as he watches it closely for any movement; his ears flattened to his head as i brought it close and used it to pet the top of his head before he started to hiss harshly. 9/15/25 FB79 Perched with his paws tucked away Allan slow blinks when i climb the ladder and speak to him through the food slot and when i slowly introduce the assess-a-hand he leans in to sniff and remains still watching it for movement. However, when i lift it and attempt to pet he hisses, leans up and swats it with force while starting to low grumble. When i remove the hand he remains tense with his tail starting to sway but slow blinks again when i speak. 9/17/25 FB61 Allan was lying down on his perch as I approached with his ears forward and his expression relaxed. Allan’s front paws were folded neatly in front of him and his tail was curled around his body. He watched as I offered treats and a catnip toy however he did not engage with the offerings while I was watching. When I attempt petting, Allan flattened his ears and began to back away, so I did not push it further at this time. When I checked on him later he was at the front of his kennel, eating all of his treats! Allan appeared much more calm & curious today! 9/19/25 FB79 At the top part of his kennel, Allan sits with this paws tucked, his eyes soft and forward ears. He slow blinks as few times as i speak to him through the glass of the food slot but as soon as i slowly open the kennel door he hisses and his eyes widen/dilate. Allan doesn't allow any petting today and flinches backing his head away from the tool when i bring it in for him to sniff. He has a tense body with his shoulders hunched in and his back arched with a tightly wrapped tail. He snaps his head over to the side to closely watch the tool as i use it to pet down his back and his ears flatten. Allan hisses at the tool and swats at it as i pull it away from him to en the interaction. 9/22/25 FB61 Lying in the back of his kennel upon approach, body and face neutral with his front legs stretched away from his body and his ears forward. Allan widens his eyes when offered treats and a catnip tool but he does not hiss or retreat. When I check on him a few moments later (while slow-blinking and speaking to him softly) I see that he's eating the treats. After I make my way around the room and check on him again he is batting at the catnip toy offered playfully! He looks much more relaxed in his kennel than he has in the past. I think he has potential. See GAN for continuation.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Laying in the back of the kennel, Allan has neutral eyes, forward ears, and a loose tail when the kennel door is opened. He’s slow blinks when spoken to softly, but has no interest in treats offered, and when the assessor slowly brings her hand in for him to sniff he remains still with no reaction. Allan allows the assessor to pet the top of his head as well as down and around his body with no reaction and when the assessor attempted to pick up, Allan tensed up using his back legs to push off the bedding then curling into himself when released. 9/09/25 Allan was hunched on top of his perch as the assessor approached, body and face tense with his ears flat and his tail wrapped tightly around his body. Allan hissed and struck the floor when spoken to and he continued to hiss as the kennel door opened. When petting was attempted with the assess–a –hand, Alan rushed forward and swatted the hand multiple times before it made contact. Pick up was not attempted at this time. Allan is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat / scratch and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
