Hello, my name is Mocha Mocha. My animal id is #218439. I am a female black dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/11/2025, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.

Pre-Screener FormMocha Mocha is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Mocha Mocha arrived at MACC following a multiple bite incident. Mocha Mocha's owner was being comforted by their partner when Mocha Mocha began growling. Mocha Mocha then escalated to lunging and biting the partner. Mocha Mocha left three punctures on the partner's left hand, leg, and pinky. During her stay in the care center Mocha Mocha has been observed to be neutral body in kennel. Medically Mocha Mocha has CIRDC.

During her stay in the care center Mocha has been observed to have a neutral body and will engage in enrichment. Due to the multiple bite incident we recommend an experienced adult only home.

Owner reported pet is allergic to beef and chicken. HA diet started while in care; recommending follow-up with veterinarian after placement to evaluate long-term allergy management.

On 1/21/2025 at approximately 9 am, I examined Mocha Mocha 218439. She has appropriate mentation at this time with no neurologic signs present, and has not exhibited any neurological signs while at ACC.

Bite history:: Had bitten before, while the owner was patting their partner on the back. Mocha jumped and bit the owner. It was a bite and release

For a New Family to Know: Mocha Mocha enjoys being pet and cuddling. She plays with all sorts of toys. Knows commands such as sit, stay, paw and lay down and go home. Her fave snacks are fruits. Gets 2 walks a day that are 20 mins long. Pulls mildly on the leash.

The girlfriend was tending to the owner by rubbing and the patting his back as he vomiting when Mocha Mocha began growling and escalated to lunging and biting the girlfriend. Mocha Mocha left 3 punctures one of the girlfriend’s left hand, back of her right left, and a pinky finger. She went to urgent care for her wounds but no stitches were needed. The bites were reported to be bite and releases.

Summary:: Mocha Mocha was surrendered due to a reported bite incident while in the home. Mocha was reported to have been left in the care of a friend of the owner to keep. At 1 AM, the owner came home and wasn’t feeling well after a night out. The girlfriend was tending to the owner by rubbing and the patting his back as he vomiting when Mocha Mocha began growling and escalated to lunging and biting the girlfriend. Mocha Mocha left 3 punctures one of the girlfriend’s left hand, back of her right leg, and a pinky finger. She went to urgent care for her wounds but no stitches were needed. The bites were reported to be bite and releases. Mocha Mocha is reported to be sometimes shy and prefers contact on her own terms or social with strangers and visitors; social with children, shy on contact with other dogs & cats, no reported resource guarding, and partially housetrained. Due to Mocha Mocha’s quick escalation to biting multiple times, the behavior team does not feel that she is a safe candidate for a handling assessment.
Summary (7):: 1/20/25: Mocha Mocha is laying down with a neutral body at the front of kennel as handler approaches. She remains neutral throughout interaction, occasionally lip licking. She takes treats gently through the kennel bars and begins to engage with enrichment after it is given to her. 1/15/25: Mocha Mocha is at the front of kennel with a neutral body and barking as handler approaches. She is easily leashed and taken to the backyard for a walk. She avoids the pens and has a softer body frame when walked along the perimeter of the yard. In the pen she pulls hard towards other dogs in pens, but is easily redirectable with a squeaker toy. She has soft eyes and a neutral body throughout the walk and is returned to kennel without issue
