London
Hello, my name is London. My animal id is #218594. I am a female black brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/14/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormLondon is at risk due to behavioral reasons. London's previous owner reported her to be on leash reactive towards dogs and strangers, as she will hard bark, growl, retreat, and pull very hard. In care, London has been observed to baulk and thrash on leash when returning to the building and when reentering. Even though she has improved in handleability during her stay, she continues to have a tense body, pants, paces, and seeks exit while on walks. Medically, London has CRDC.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to defensive behavior we recommend a home with no children. No Dog Parks: Due to growling and backing away from other dogs on the street we recommend no trips to the dog park. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety,Strength/leash pulling
Potential challenges comments:: Basic Manners: London's previous owner states that she will jump up often or non-stop. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners. Fearful Defensive: London's previous owner states that she will hard bark and growl towards strangers. During her stay in the care center London has been observed to baulk and thrash on leash when returning to the building and when reentering kennel. It is important to move slowly with London, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. Anxiety: London has been observed to be anxious during her stay in the care center. Noted to have a tense body, panting, pacing and seeking exit. If London displays anxious behavior in their future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving them other things to focus on to alleviate their anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used. Please see handout on Generalized Anxiety. Leash Pulling: London's previous owner states that she pull very hard while on leash. It is recommended that they be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which will help diminish their strength through leverage, and that they be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.
