Pre-Screener Form

Pepper Jack is at risk due to his behavior concerns. Pepper Jack has a low threshold for arousal towards handlers. While he has moments of sociability, engaging with enrichment activities and showing soft body language with familiar handlers, he has also exhibited growling, lunging, and hard barking towards unfamiliar staff. Medically Pepper Jack has a mass on his eyelid, nuclear sclerosis, osteoarthritis - mild To moderate, and is overweight.

Pre-Screener Form Pepper Jack is at risk due to his behavior concerns. Pepper Jack arrived at the care center as a stray, so his history is unknown. He shows a mix of social and anxious behaviors, often engaging with enrichment activities, exploring spaces, and displaying soft body language during interactions with familiar handlers. However, Pepper Jack has also shown a low threshold for arousal, as evidenced by his growling when staff walk past his kennel. When interacting with new handlers, he will exhibits a tense body, growling, lunging, and hard barking. Due to these behaviors, Pepper Jack is available for rescue through one of our New Hope partners. A volunteer writes: I love a frosty faced old man, and I'm ok with that! I last saw Pepper Jack this weekend in his kennel, laying on some blankets. He caught my eye and slowly tried to stand, thinking it was his turn for a walk. It hurt my heart to see an old boy in a kennel, when I know his bones and joints must are aching. His cloudy eyes hopeful thinking it's his turn for a break. Pepper Jack was found stray and he's struggled at the shelter. He's warming with people he knows, excited to go to the enrichment room to play and rest under familiar legs. But wary with newer people. In his dog greeting he was nervous and avoidant. We know Pepper Jack has some aches and pains and things that should be checked out. Today he's seeking a rescue and a gentle landing spot.

My medical notes are...
