Cool is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I'll need daily interaction with you as I get used to my new life.

Scanned neg History: Owner surrender, hoarding environment Subjective: BAR Observed Behavior - crouched in back of kennel and tries to flee when approached, elected to sedate due to history and behavior of other cats in home Is there evidence of suspected cruelty? Pre-surgical exam, anesthesia, and surgery performed by offsite vet. Medical record uploaded to Vet Documents. Green linear tattoo placed lateral to incision. GIVE: 0.09 ml of Meloxicam 1.5 mg/ml mg by mouth for 2 days starting the day after surgery. For pain management. ligated both suspensory and Right pedicle.

Recheck suspected rodent ulcers, visual only S/O: BAR, retreats up onto shelf when approached, good appetite, no c/s/v/d noted EENT: No ocular or nasal discharge ORAL: Rostral maxillary lips appear slightly thickened, no notable discharge LUNGS: Eupneic CNS: Appropriate mentation A: Suspect EGC, dental disease P: Continue gabapentin for FAS +/- discomfort No treatment at this time, consider steroid taper vs atopica with placement if ulceration persists CTM closely while at QACC

Progress exam P reported to be 'wobbly' in free roaming room and have difficult with hindlimbs jumping up onto furniture. S/O: P is BAR, attempting to flee but allowed all handling with towel restraint. Pink and moist mm. Crt<2secs, mild dental disease. No ocular or nasal discharge. No apparent neurological deficits. Appears visual OU. Mild HL ataxia or stiffness intermittently noted when ambulating around room, possible LHL>>RHL. A: Mild hindlimb weakness vs ataxia r/o neuro vs musculoskeletal P: Hold in Medical ICU for 24-48 hours monitoring Start gabapentin for mild analgesia, ok for 100mg PO q12h x 7 days *Recheck daily - if declines neurologically notify DVM *DVM recheck in 2 days

8/3/2026

Progress exam Recheck wobbliness reported on 7/31. Has been on gabapentin. Normal appetite, no c/s/v/d. Normal energy levels while in ICU. S/O: BAR, Normal mentation. PLR intact and responsive. Menace intact. Attempts to flee and does not allow extensive medical handling. Watched patient walk around exam room. Did not note a lameness or hindlimb ataxia/gait abnormality. Patient was able to jump into a basket and on a shelf without issues. Did not palpate limbs or examine ROM/signs of pain due to patient temperament at time of exam. A: Hx of hind limb weakness/lameness - not appreciated today on exam. P: Appears that hind limb abnormality has resolved and patient is able to ambulate normally around room. Plan to finish out gabapentin course. OK to move out of ICU, but not free-roam room unless medications are able to be confirmed to be given. Recheck scheduled in 5 days to evaluate progress before gabapentin is d/c.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Cool was brought in from a hoarding situation with limited information on her behavior history in a home environment.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 6/08/26 FB61 Hunched in back of perch, body and face very tense with her tail around her feet. I offer her toys and some churu, however she remains too focused on me to engage with the offerings. I do not attempt hands on interaction at this time to reduce stress and prevent the potential of creating a negative association with my hands. When I check on her later I see the treats have been eaten. Will continue to build positive associations. 6/12/26 FB79 Cool is inside of her box and had forward ears and slightly wide eyes; i spoke to her and slow blinked but she had no reaction and kept her eyes on more. I used the tool for treats but she had no interest and when i tried to pet i was able to briefly pet the top of her head before she pulled away and jumped to the top of the kennel. 6/18/26 FB79 Cool is in the back of the kennel, behind her body and peaked her head up when i entered and greeted her; her ears were forward and her eyes wide but she remained still as i spoke to her and slowly brought the tool in for her to sniff. She leaned in to smell and had no reaction when i used the tool to pet her head as well as her cheeks - however when i ran the tool down and around her back and body she quickly jumped to the top of the kennel where she sat with her body slightly tense, hunched in shoulders and her tail wrapped as she watched me while i spoke to her softly. I left her some treats at the top near her and a toy where she was hiding behind her box. 7/8/26 FB58 Sitting hunched and hiding behind her box, eyes wide and dilated as she lifts her head with a tense face and body, jumping up onto her shelf and sits at the back hunched with her tail low and the tip flicking. She sniffs at the treat I lightly toss and then lip licks, not eating them and remaining in place until the door is closed - I place a linen over her door. After I step away, she is at the front of her cage vocalizing and sniffing the cat nip toys I had placed. I offer my hand at the glass and she leans forward to sniff. 7/12/26 FB26 Cool is doing very well in the Free Roam Room! She is initially hiding under one of the large cubby's in the room. I suddenly see her head pop out after I've been talking softly for a bit, looking at me with wide eyes. I offer her treats, and she leans forward and eats a few dry treats. I talk softly to her and she flinches away from my hand. She moves away, her body low to the ground. A few minutes later, I am sitting on the floor interacting with another cat, and she suddenly comes out again. She begins walking the permitter of the room and becomes chatty, meowing and looking out the large window. When adopters come over, she walks back and forth, arching her back with a high tail, doing a little dance for them! I pet her along her back and she leans into the touch. After, she retreats to the high ledge and remains there. -GAN

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 6/7/26 Cool is sitting in her litter box with a neutral face and body, paws tucked and a wrap tail; she had no reaction when the assessor greeted him and had no interest in treats. When the tool was slowly brought in, she had no reaction to being pet on her head or cheeks - however, when the tool ran down and around his body, she tensed up and started to lick lip. Her shoulders were hunched in as she started to look around the cubby for an exit. As petting continued, her ears tilted and she started to back himself away in attempt to avoid contact, followed by sitting up as she lifted her paw and attempt to swap the tool but never made that contact. Pick up was not attempted at this time. 7/7/26 Cool is crouched behind her hidey box. When the box is slowly removed she has wide dilated eyes and flattened ears. Cool flees up to the shelf where she sniffs the offered scratcher tool with squeeze up intently but does not eat the treats. She allows gentle petting on her cheeks and along her body briefly but looks to flee, body low and stiff. The interaction is ended and Cool jumps down into the main area to eat a tray of squeeze up left for her. Cool is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She is very apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, he does attempt to flee and avoid human contact. It is difficult to predict if he will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people.
