Doe
Hello, my name is Doe. My animal id is #250662. I am a desexed female calico cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 months 4 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a aco - impound on 3/27/2026.
Doe is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Doe is a tiny snow-kissed beauty with the gentlest soul. 🤍✨ This dainty little lady spends most of her time tucked safely inside her cozy hidey box, quietly watching the world from where she feels secure. The shelter has been a bit too overwhelming for her sensitive heart, but she remains tolerant of gentle touch and patient kindness. Doe is the kind of cat who will need a calm home, soft voices, and someone who understands that love doesn't always arrive loudly - sometimes it arrives in tiny, brave moments. Beneath her shy exterior is a lovely little cat just waiting to feel safe enough to bloom. If you have a quiet home and a gentle heart, Doe may be the delicate companion you've been waiting for. 🕊️🐾

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: Doe was brought in with limited information on her behavior history in a home environment. Doe has previously lived with cats.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 3/29/26 Vol. Doe was in her den. When I lifted the panel, I saw her huddled up in the back of the den. I spoke to her and offered treats. She started to leave through the side portal of the den, so I propped up the panel over the front opening and she stopped trying to leave. I lifted the panel again and spoke to her while petting her with a scratcher tool. She remained huddled up but was calm and not trying to leave. She just needs more time to adapt. 4/3/26 In her hide with her eyes wide and dilated, face visible and poking out slightly. She appears curious and allows me to place the enrichment cup near her, sniffing it but then ducks back into the hide, not engaging further. After I reintroduce her to her sibling Poe (in hopes that having a friend with help with both of their appetites) - Poe was a struggle to get transfer from her cage into Doe's and had to be netted but over time as I check in on them, I have yet to see them interact. 4/9/26 FB79 Under the kuranda bed, Doe can be seen looking from under the bedding but retreats into the back corner with wide eyes, forward ears and her body curled tightly. She tolerated petting with the tool when i ran it down her body but turned her head away to avoid eye contact. 4/11/26 FB06 Doe is curled up inside her cave, her eyes are wide and ears are forward as she is watching me. I speak softly to her as I slowly offer the scratcher. She tolerates a few scratches before backing away to the side out of view. I offer her a cupcake treat but she has no interest. 4/14/26 FB58 Laying under flip bed and to the side, completely hidden from view. She allows me to plays the tray with squeeze up in front of her and she sniffs at it before freezing in place as she realizes I'm still there, waiting for me to leave. When I come back to check, she has eaten all of the squeeze up. I offer her some tuna in water and she does the same thing. I don't push for pets and continue to try and build a positive association. 4/16/26 FB79 Inside of her hidey, Doe is curled up with wide eyes and forward ears when I peak in; however when I open the kennel door and speak she hissed quietly with a titled right ear. I slowly pushed in a tray of treats which she didn't care for but when I slow brought the tool in for pets she briefly tolerated pets on her cheeks before hissing once again. 4/22/26 FB61 Hunched under hidey box, body and face tense. She remains completely frozen in place when offered treats and a catnip toy. She is tolerant of all petting while shifting further into her hiding spot. Very pretty, very shy. 4/27/26 FB06 Doe is pressed tightly against the inside of her cave out of view. Due to having blood on her bedding I didn’t do too much interacting. I was able to change the bedding as she remained inside the cave. Turning it slightly to see her face, she had wide eyes. She lightly sniffed the scratcher and tolerated some back pets. GAN
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Please see behavior flyer.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Doe would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Upon approach, Doe was inside the den out of view. As the kennel door opened and the scratcher was slowly offered at the den opening, Doe had no interest. The den cover was then slowly lifted where she could be seen lying in a loaf, paws tucked under her body, wide eyes and forward ears. As the scratcher was slowly offered she gently sniffed. She tolerated some head and body pets as she squirmed to the back of the den and pressed herself into the corner. No pick up was attempted at this time. Doe tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
