Kitty Kat Kat
Hello, my name is Kitty Kat Kat. My animal id is #216360. I am a male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 1 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 12/10/2024.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormKitty Kat Kat is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. He also has a mile upper respiratory tract infection.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

He really needed some help, but finding his way since he was brought here by the police has proven to be easier said than done. We don't know much about Kitty Kat Kat's before and it seems the most important thing he wants us to know right now is that the Care Center is not the place for him. He's curious when we extend the scratcher tool alongside our friendship, but has swiftly declined anything more than the most basic sniffs. This is ok. The shelter is big and it can sometimes be difficult for our more sensitive friends to find their place. We know his forever family is out there and he'll just need another helping hand to get him there. What my friends at ACC say about me: I am looking for a home with a patient person. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 12/13/24 Kitty Kat Kat was hiding in the den upon approach. Alert with eyes wide. Ears erect and forward. He slowly leans forward sniffing the scratcher tool through the side portal door. When attempting to pet he retreats and began to hiss. Ignores offered treats to try to coax him out. Avoids contact and swats at the scratcher tool ending the assessment. 01/13/25 Kitty Kat Kat is a bold, timid, and independent cat whose behavior has been consistent with the previous evaluation 1 month ago. He was lying down in his den and lunges at the front door when removing the den cover. He hisses and steps back, curled up and focused on the assessor with a tense body and wide, dilated eyes. When reaching close to offer treats on the scratcher tool, he swats hard at the tool. When entering the den with the tool, he curiously sniffs and lip licks. He leans back and freezes when pet on the head, cheeks, and body. After removing the tool away and placing the den cover back on the front door, he lunges and hisses again. Kitty Kat Kat is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
