Arrabbiata
Hello, my name is Arrabbiata. My animal id is #219016. I am a male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 1/21/2025.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormArrabbiata is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: My favorite pastime is being visually admired! Pet me with your eyes! A volunteer writes: Arrabiata was abandoned in a building lobby and came in with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. While he uses every opportunity to emphatically explain that he's unhappy, I wish Arrabiata would use some of those hisses to tell us what we can do to make things easier for him. Alas, things are not always so simple. Choosing the comfort of his den over his big open condo, Arrabiata hasn't been interested in pets and toys and is quick with a hiss and a swat to say that. Arrabiata is a gentleman who could use some patience and love to decompress. A quiet home and a loving family where he will have the space to figure things out unencumbered by the constant stream of sights and sounds we have at the Care Center. We don't know much about his history prior to coming to us and we don't know what kind of cat he'll be when he has a family to call his own, but we know he deserves all the love in the world.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Arrabbiata was inside the den upon approach eyes wide. After lifting up den cover he quickly retreated, hisses and strikes at the plexi door. When attempting to make contact through the side portal door he low growls and hard swats at the scratcher tool. Ended the assessment to reduce stress. Arrabbiata is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
