Tilly
Hello, my name is Tilly. My animal id is #218379. I am a desexed female white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 1/10/2025.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormTilly is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. Tilly in care has displayed a high level of sensitivity around her neck area, and is generally fearful of touch in certain areas making it difficult to do a handling assessment on her, and consistently tenses with any form of touch during her time in the care center. Medically, Tilly is overweight.

This animal is not directly available for adoption through ACC and is only available by completing the pre-screener form.Adoption inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response. Pre-Screener Form Tilly is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. Tilly in care has displayed a high level of sensitivity around her neck area, and is generally fearful of touch in certain areas making it difficult to do a handling assessment on her, and consistently tenses with any form of touch during her time in the care center. Medically, Tilly is overweight. Tilly arrived at the care center as a stray, leaving her history unknown. She has struggled to adjust to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide necessary behavior support using force-free, positive reinforcement-based methods. A stable home environment would allow for a re-evaluation of her behavior and set Tilly up for success before transitioning into a permanent home.

She engages with a snuffle mat and will approach handler as they sit on the couch. A second handler assists in collaring Tilly, but she becomes tense and quickly backs away, so handlers decide to collar her at a later date. Tilly returns to a licky mat, engaging for a minute before being returned to kennel safely.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Tilly is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Place with a New Hope Partner: Tilly has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful,Anxiety
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Tilly has been observed to stiffen and thrash with interaction and attempt to make contact. During her medical exam, she displayed similar behaviors. Please see handout on Decompression Period.
