Animal Profile

Shiloh

Hello, my name is Shiloh. My animal id is #217830. I am a desexed male black dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a returns on 1/19/2025.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Shiloh is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Shiloh initially presented as timid in care but warmed up quickly with a slow approach, soliciting attention and petting. He was returned by his adopter due to bite incidents that occurred in the home. One bite did break skin and draw blood but he did not make contact with the other incidents. His adopter also reported hard barking and lunging at strangers on walks. Medically, Shiloh is apparently healthy.

Shiloh was initially surrendered into care due to his owner moving to a new home that did not allow pets; but his history in the home was not provided. Shiloh initially presented in care as timid but quickly warmed up to staff with a slow approach; he readily sought attention with a soft, loose body. He was quickly adopted but then returned due to behavior concerns in the adopter's home including a bite incident and bite attempts. Shiloh was reported to have conflicts with the resident children and home health aide. He was reported to escalate to growling, lunging, and biting when attempting to pet him or when the health aide was leaving the room. Due to these corners, we recommend that Shilohh to be placed in an adult-only home through one of our New Hope rescue partners that can address his challenges with the use of a certified professional positive reinforcement-only trainer after being given a decompression period.
