Animal Profile

Meerkat

Hello, my name is Meerkat. My animal id is #216778. I am a female black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12/15/2024, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- hoarding situation.

Meerkat has developed a severe URI while in shelter. She is not eating and is on injectable and oral medication to try to support her through this infection. Meerkat needs a lower stress environment and more personal attention in order to heal.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Meerkat has developed a severe URI while in shelter. She is not eating and is on injectable and oral medication to try to support her through this infection. Meerkat needs a lower stress environment and more personal attention in order to heal. What my friends at ACC say about me: I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I have lived with cats. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I am looking for a home with a patient person. Meerkat tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. She will likely need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Due to the behavior shown, she may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.
