Griffin is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns in his previous home. Griffin displays reactivity toward dogs and unfamiliar people, including lunging and hard barking on walks. Griffin is noted to be a fearful dog and hard bark at unfamiliar staff, and has done so during current stay in the care center. Griffin is social with staff and warms up quickly, and loves playing with toys. Medically, Griffin is apparently healthy.

Jennie is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is an under socialized adult cat, not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home/facility as quickly as possible to facilitate socialization in an appropriate and consistent manner. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping an under socialized and fearful adult cat adjust to new environments and strangers.

Kano is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns in his previous home. Kano in his previous home is reported to lunge at children, strangers and small dogs on his walks, but this is a behavior that has not been displayed in the care center. Kano is also noted to have some arousal concerns, and resource guard his food when people approach by growling or barking. Kano in the care center is social with staff and loves to play in the yards. Medically, Kano is apparently healthy.

Futon

Futon is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Futon arrived at the Care Center as a stray. Upon arrival Futon was noted to be highly fearful, noted to be very tense for her medical exam. With time, Futon has shown improved sociability; in her most recent handling assessment she was noted to warm up to handlers and be treat receptive. Futon has been showing on-leash reactivity, observed to pull hard towards people and dogs when on walks with a tense body. Staff have reported that Futon's reactivity can be managed with treats and is showing promise with 'engage/disengage' clicker training. Medically, Futon is apparently healthy.

Nymeria is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Nymeria arrived at the Care Center as an owner surrender. Nymeria's previous owner noted that she is fearful of unfamiliar people and that has been observed during her arrival and initial part of her stay. Nymeria was noted to be tense during her handling assessment and medical exam. With time Nymeria has warmed up to staff, becoming social by soliciting contact and is now treat receptive. However, despite these improvements she is showing concerning on-leash reactivity. Nymeria has been observed to pull hard towards dogs with a tense body while vocalizing, this behavior is difficult to redirect. With staff Nymeria remains social. Medically, Nymeria is noted to have a wound that is healing and is overweight.

Moochie

Moochie is at risk due to behavioral reasons. Moochie was recently returned from foster. Moochie is reported to have bitten the foster multiple times over resources. During her previous stay in care Moochie was observed to become tense while in the possession of a toy. Her foster parent also noted handling sensitivity; once when the handler attempted to remove her harness, Moochie escalated to snapping persistently. When on walks Moochie allows gentle petting and is social with staff. Medically, Moochie has dental disease and is currently in heat.

Ronnie

Ronnie is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Ronnie came into our Care center as a stray. During intake Ronnie was tense bodied, whale eyeing handlers and growling. During his stay in the Care center, Ronnie has been observed to hard bark, jumping on his door as dogs pass his kennel. It has been reported Ronnie entered his kennel fine but he spun around and lunged towards the leash while baring teeth. Handler was able to remove the leash and close the kennel door but Ronnie began hard barking and fixating on their hand. Ronnie is receptive to treats and is social with handlers. Medically, Ronnie has periodontal disease and pyoderma.

Chanel

Chanel is on the At Risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. She is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for her mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. It is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him/her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid bite/scratch incidents.

Milo is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Milo came into the care center as an owner surrender. During his intake, when staff approached Milo he had shown reactivity including hard barking, lunging, and low growling towards them. While in the Care center Milo has shown dog reactivity fixating on them while hard barking with a tense body. He has been showing kennel reactivity pulling hard towards the passing kennels. When first in shelter Milo would snap at the leash and whale eye at handlers in kennel when attempting to leash him. He is receptive to treats and solicits pets from familiar handlers. Owner reported he knows various verbal commands. Also he's very affectionate and loves to cuddle. His favorite game is tug of war and he likes to do tricks for treats. Medically, Milo is apparently healthy.

Initially, La Princesa was observed to be fearful in the care center; noted to have a tense low body, firmly tucked tail, and is reluctant to approach handlers. With time and a slow approach, La Princesa has shown some improvement, walking on leash more consistently and is social with select handlers. Medically La Princesa is apparently healthy.

Hazel is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Hazel's previous owner noted she is friendly and outgoing. Upon arrival Hazel was noted to be social with staff, allowed handling and understood basic commands such as 'sit' and 'paw'. While in the kennel environment Hazel was initially fearful of handlers approaching her in kennel, but she has shown significant improvement in sociability. Despite these improvements, Hazel has been kennel reactive, while not consistent, when she shows reactivity to dogs in kennels- she will lunge with a tense body while hard barking. Hazel is also showing a decreasing threshold for arousal, noted to be consistently jumping on handlers and taking treats with moderate pressure in her recent handling assessment. Outside of the kennel environment Hazel continues to be social and treat receptive to handlers. Medically Hazel has undetermined allergies, alopecia, otitis chronic, and pyoderma.

Ru is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Ru arrived at the Care Center as a stray with limited history. It was reported Ru was found in a home with another dog, abandoned for several days without food or water. Both dogs were found with several bite wounds. During intake and handling assessment, Ru allowed all contact, was social with staff, and was treat motivated. Ru has not acclimated to the shelter environment well. Ru has begun consistently leash biting when handlers attempt to remove him from kennel and been observed to persistently bite kennel bars. Outside of kennel Ru remains social with staff, treat receptive, and walks well on leash. Medically, Ru is noted to have bite wounds that are healing, is underweight, and recently recovered from CIRDC.

Roxy is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Roxy has been fearful in the care center trembling, growling, snapping at the leash, and hard barking during handling, along with tension and avoidance in the kennel and during interactions when first in care. Roxy has also been deteriorating, smearing feces across her kennel door and floor from jumping on her kennel. Roxy is still a bit nervous in the care center, but has warmed up significantly with familiar staff and has been slowly allowing more handling. Medically, Roxy has dental disease.

Metro is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Metro arrived at the Care Center as a stray with limited history. Upon arrival Metro was social with staff and highly treat motivated. Despite efforts to keep him comfortable, Metro has not acclimated well to the shelter environment. Metro has been observed to be highly kennel reactive, pushing off walls lunging toward occupied kennels. On walks, Metro is also noted to become tense when seeing other dogs. Recently, Metro has also been noted to show a decreasing threshold for arousal, jumping on handlers and fixating on hands. Metro is treat receptive, and has shown the ability to refocus with the use of pattern games such as 'up/down'. During his handling assessment Metro was noted to be social, approach handlers readily and allow all contact. Medically, Metro is apparently healthy.

Sugar Kane has been placed on the at-risk list for medical reasons. He has heartworm disease with active generation of microfilaria. He needs care and treatment that we cannot provide. Behaviorally, Sugar Kane has allowed all handling for medical work, exubertant with staff, and highly food motivated.

In the care center, Celsius in the care center will at times refuse to enter back into kennel, balking and pancaking in the hallways and when attempted to be taken outside on several occasions, will pancake and refuse to walk up to the ramp at times. Celsius is social with handlers, easily leashed, and is very affectionate, but is having trouble navigating the care center environment. Medically, Celsius is apparently healthy.

She is not thriving in the care center and is displaying significant levels of FAS in the shelter setting and immediate reactivity to approach that prevents contact from being made with her. Each attempt made to interact with her increases her level of FAS and reactivity to the level. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Throughout their stay at the care center, Euphrates has warmed up to handlers. Noted to check in with handlers while on walks and is receptive to treats. Recently Euphrates has been observed to have a low threshold for arousal. Noted to be rope reactive. Jumping up high, biting and tugging on the leash. This is not able to be easily redirected. Medically, Euphrates has undetermined allergies, alopecia, CIRDC, unspecified dermatitis, and a wound.

Rocky

Rocky is on the at-risk list due to medical concerns. Rocky is a friendly, gentle, senior LMB who was brought to the shelter when their owner was hospitalized. Rocky has clinical signs, x-rays and urinalysis findings consistent with cancer of the urinary bladder. On x-rays there appears to be a mass in his urinary bladder that is making is difficult for him to pass urine. We have started medication to help Rocky feel more comfortable. Rocky will need to receive immediate emergency care if he is unable to pass urine or only passing small amounts of urine. We have assessed that Rocky has periodontal disease, dermal masses, osteoarthritis and hearing loss. Rocky will need follow up with a veterinarian for comfort care and potential additional diagnostic testing. Rocky has allowed all handling and seeks attention during their exams.
