Summary:: 1/13/26: Lila greets another dog at the gate with a tense body and one front leg up. She extends he body forward to sniff the other dog.
Summary (7):: 1/15/26: Lila has been observed to vocalize in a high pitch as the room is active. 1/14/26: Lila is lying down in kennel and then approaches the front with a neutral body. She is easily leashed and brought out the room. While walking out the building, Lila either slows down or stops walking; the handler adds gentle leash pressure to continue walking, which encourages Lila. On the street, Lila walks ahead and next to the handler with no leash pressure. She shows no interest in passersby, including a familiar handler spoken to by the current handler. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Lila to kennel with ease. 1/5/26- Lila is at the front of her kennel with a neutral body, she gently takes a treat presented through her door. She is easily leashed and is taken for a street walk. She is hypervigilant (tail tucked, head low at times, ears pinned, looking around). She is aloof with handler and only interacts when treats are presented. As people walk by she watches them with a neutral body and keeps walking, she has the same reaction when seeing dogs in passing. She allows handler to scratch her head, neck and back. She walks on a loose leash, occasionally stopping to intensely sniff at spots. When returning in the hall way, it was crowded with people. Lila started to mildly baulk away from them with her head low and ears pinned. Handler softly talks to her and Lila slowly walks down the hallway periodically stopping to look at people. Handler keeps talking and she eventually makes it to the office for her assessment. She has a tense body and takes treats at first from other handler. She then is avoidant as they attempt to collar, moving away constantly. She is not receptive to treats. Handler ends assessment to not further stress Lila. She is easily clipped and slowly walks back to her kennel. She readily goes into kennel without issue. During previous stay at ACC: 10/30/25: Lila is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She is hesitant to allow leashing and ignores treats offered but eventually allows leashing with a slow approach. She is taken to the street for her walk and has a tucked tail and is hypervigilant while outside. She walks past people without issue and does not stop to sniff or relieve herself throughout the walk. After a bit she is brought back inside for her assessment, once complete she is returned to kennel without further issue.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Lila so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: During her current stay Lila has been obsvered to be avoidant of interacting the handler and quickly begins seeking exit. During her prior stay Lila was obsvered to be highly fearful. Noted to be tense and trembling during interactions and thrashing while on leash. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Lila would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period.
