Seven
Hello, my name is Seven. My animal id is #247675. I am a desexed male white dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/15/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormSeven is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Seven arrived as an owner surrender due to housing instability. Seven's previous owner notes he is friendly and outgoing. Upon arrival Seven was noted to be social with staff, he was soft bodied and allowed all tasks for a medical exam. During his handling assessment Seven was again noted to be highly social, approaching handlers, and allow all contact. Seven has been leash biting consistently since the beginning of his stay and has recently been noted to be anxious on walks. Seven has also been noted to be anxious during walks. Staff have also reported Seven has begun to frequently circle around handlers during walks both inside the building and when out on sidewalk. When being returned to kennel, Seven has been consistently grabbing hold and pulling his leash into kennel, he was able redirected with high value treats only. Due to increased intensity for safety concerns we are limiting handling. Medically, Seven is noted to have a fractured tooth and dental disease.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to resource guarding we recommend a home with no children. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Leash-biting
Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Seven has been observed to become tense and hover over the toy in his possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Seven's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Basic Manners: Seven's previous owner states that he will jump up often. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners. Leash Biting: Seven is observed to turn and tug the leash into kennel when being returned. This behavior is able to be redirected with treats. We recommend walking them with a toy to dissuade them from grabbing the leash. Positive reinforcement, force-free training is advised to teach them to focus on you rather than grabbing the leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.
