Animal Profile

Money

Hello, my name is Money. My animal id is #246128. I am a desexed male gray brindle dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/23/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.

Money is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. Money in the care center at times does not want to enter back into the care center, having to be handled by two staff members to help coax him back in. Money has also displayed on leash reactivity, lunging and hard barking at passing dogs becoming difficult to refocus at times due to his size. Money is highly social with staff but struggling to acclimate. Medically, Money is recovering from a perianal mass removal and is otherwise healthy.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles! I need a home without cats or small animals. I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

My medical notes are...

Perianal mass - raised nodular mass that appear to have small ulcerations on the surface, approx 3/4inch in diameter at the widest point. Pathology Report INTERPRETATION: Perianal mass: Perianal gland carcinoma, well-differentiated, ulcerated Mitotic count: 23 mitotic figures in 2.37 mm2 (equivalent to 10HPF) Histologic tumor-free margins: Clear, the nearest peripheral and deep margin are 1 mm Vascular invasion: Not present COMMENTS: This mass is most consistent with a perianal gland carcinoma. This is an uncommon, low grade malignant neoplasm of perianal gland origin. Peak incidence is 8-12 years of age. Breeds at risk include the Siberian Husky, Shih Tzu, and mixed breeds. Intact males are at increased risk. The rate of growth is variable, and the metastatic potential is low. Metastasis, if it occurs, is via lymphatics to sacral and internal iliac lymph nodes, with potential spread to other organs. Metastasis may be more common in poorly differentiated perianal carcinomas but may be infrequent in well-differentiated tumors.

Summary (7):: 2/16/26: Money is at the front of his kennel with a loose body, is easily leashed but immediately lunged for the dog next to him as she was peeking her head out of the food tray slot. Money is walked out of the room quickly and walked into the behavior office. Money is highly social with staff, leaning into petting, holding his toy and exploring his surroundings. Money is put back into a new kennel, where he did not want to walk out of the behavior office and had to be coaxed a bit by another handler with verbal praise. Money enters kennel with no issue. 2/12/26: Money is observed to lunge, hard bark and growl at another passing dog until the dog is out of sight. 2/6/26: Money was leashed easily in the kennel. Easy walk, no pulling until he sees another dog. He lunges and bark. When taken outside the gate, he becomes hesitant to come back. We did coax by tricking Money to speed walk and used squeaker toy to follow middle of the street and towards back to shelter in Woodward side gate. Not interest in treats but loves squeaker toys. During 2nd walk, handler leashed easily and recommended to take the play yard to avoid Money being hesitant in the street. He did great in play yard and did his business. Hes also easily to take him back to kennel. 2nd person had to direct traffic to avoid other dogs and speed walk back to kennel. Must carry squeaker toy to get Money's attention. 2/1/26: Money greets handler at front of kennel with a neutral body. He is easy to leash and escort to behavior room. Handler had prepared a snuffle mat and Money engaged with the item after handler pointed at the mat. When handler sat down, Money sat in front of handler with his back to handler. Handler scratched and petted Money's back and top of head. When handler stopped Money turned around and put his paw on handler. He was returned with no issue. 1/31/26: Money is laying down in his kennel as handler approaches. He comes forward to the front as the handler unlocks the door and is able to be leashed with ease. He is then taken to the behavior room. In the room, he is comfortable approaching the handlers to receive pets and treats. He has no reactions to handlers entering and exiting the room. He is able to return back to his kennel with no issues. 01/27/26 (Assessment Note): Money is standing at the front of his kennel and allows the handler to leash him with ease. He is escorted to the assessment room. Once inside, Money allows handlers to dress him with a collar and drag leash, solicits attention from handlers, leans in for touch, and allows all handling. He runs without becoming aroused, does not react to door knock, and engages with the toy by gripping it and offering a play bow. Money is returned to his kennel safely without issues. For more information, see Behavioral Assessment.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful | Handling Sensitivty: Money does not like the rain but if you go out with him, he will follow just not alone. When held/restrained Money is somewhat fearful but overall unbothered. Money is fearful of loud noises (Ex. storms/thunder, fireworks and arguments). Money does not like the rain but if you go out with him, he will follow just not alone. During his stay in care, Money has been reluctatn to return to the building and return to his kennel. Needing several staff and coordinated efforts to get him back to his kennel safeluy. Training should focus on confidence-building, gradual exposure to noise triggers, and reinforcing voluntary engagement to help him feel more secure. Please see the handout on decompression period and Handling/touch sensitivity. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration:When Money approaches small animals on a walk such as squirrels, birds, raccoons, opossums, etc. he will bark. Training should prioritize reinforcing attention to the handler, increasing distance from wildlife, and teaching alternative behaviors to replace barking. Please see the handout on-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.
