Emergency Placement Animals

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Animal Care Centers of NYC. Our emergency placement animals are posted three times a week, on the evenings of Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6:00PM and remain viewable for 42 hours.

Schedule overview:
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Sunday evening will be viewable until Tuesday at 12:00PM noon.
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Tuesday evening will be viewable until Thursday at 12:00PM noon.
Animals posted at 6:00PM on Thursday evening will be viewable until Saturday at 12:00PM noon.

If this is your first time visiting this site, please read the below information carefully.

For anyone who wishes to adopt, there is a mandatory deposit fee of $200 plus a transaction fee per animal to place an adoption reservation. The $200 covers $50 toward the adoption fee and $150 for the spay/neuter deposit. If the animal has already been spayed or neutered or is permanently waived by one of our veterinarians, the $150 deposit will be refunded at the time of the adoption. If the animal does need to leave without being spayed or neutered due to his/her medical condition, the $150 deposit will be refunded at the time they are brought back for the spay/neuter surgery or when proof of sterilization being done elsewhere is provided to ACC. If you do not follow through with the adoption, the entire $200 deposit will be considered a charitable donation to ACC's Special Treatment and Recovery Fund (STAR). Also, if the adoption fee for an animal is less than $50, the difference will be considered a charitable donation to the STAR Fund. Similarly, in-shelter pricing promotions do not apply to emergency placement animals.

To complete an adoption, please click reserve on the animal of your choice. That animal will be loaded in your cart and you will have 15 minutes to complete the adoption process. In order to complete your reservation, you need to check out (top right corner). At this point, you will enter in your credit card information and a receipt will be emailed to you as confirmation of your reservation. Hailey is in need of emergency placement due to behavior concerns. Hailey has been displaying higher levels of stress inside her kennel, and has began to jump up high in her kennel while vocalizing at the dog next to her. Outside of her kennel, Hailey is a affectionate dog who is social with staff. Medically, Hailey is apparently healthy.

Despite staff using treats to build a positive association, he has not warmed up. Due to his stress levels, moving out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible is in his best interest. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

La La
La La is seeking emergency placement due to behavior concerns. La La tends to avoid most handling, displaying signs of discomfort by tucking her tail and tensing up when staff interact with her. She often tries to exit inside the pens, pawing at the gate. However, with a slow and gentle approach, La La has shown some tolerance to handling, accompanied by a wagging tail, although she still exhibits signs of stress such as lip licking. Medically, La La has CIRDC currently.

Draco needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. He has been observed spinning and hard barking at strangers in his crate incessantly when they walk past, which makes it troubling for him to settle on his own. When out for walks with staff, Draco becomes fixated on other dogs, hard barking and pulling towards them, making it difficult to refocus. Medically, Draco is healthy.

Empress needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. She has been deteriorating and has begun leash biting at different intensities with staff members, making it difficult to manage in the shelter environment. Empress is able to be redirected with treats, but if not persistently refocused, she will continue to bite at the leash. Medically, Empress is healthy.

Tip is in need of emergency placement for behavior reasons. Tip has begun to deteriorate behaviorally, and his jumpy, mouthy behavior is becoming more difficult to manage. He is very food-motivated but lacks impulse control. Medically, he has dermatitis and an aural hematoma.

Rocky has been social and outgoing during his stay in care, but he has escalated to biting a staff member multiple times as a result of arousal and resource guarding. Polo is seeking emergency placement due to behavioral concerns. Polo has not acclimated well to the shelter environment and remains shut down out of fear. She does not come out of her kennel; if removed, she does not walk. Polo has to be carried once out of her kennel. During attempts to socialize and interact with her, Polo stays in one spot the entire time, avoids interaction, or finds a hiding spot where she does not come out. Medically, Polo is healthy.

She does not come out of her kennel and if removed, she does not walk. Polo has to be carried once out of her kennel. Mega Million is seeking emergency placement due to medical reasons. He has developed a severe URI, and his appetite has severely decreased. He is intolerant of medical handling, which precludes the administration of supportive care. He will require a quiet space to decompress as well as continued antibiotic therapy and supportive care. Behaviorally, Mega Million has very high FAS and does not tolerate prolonged handling.

Suanni in care has been deteriorating due the stressful environment despite best efforts to keep him comfortable, and has begun leash biting intensely with handlers when being taken out for walks, and also grabbing onto handlers clothing during interactions. Suanni is a social affectionate dog with staff. Medically, Suanni is apparently healthy.

Nation in the care center has displayed a high level for kennel stress and has began kennel fighting intensely when neighboring dogs when exiting and entering kennels. Nation has also been observed to redirect onto handlers as she is kennel fighting. Nation with staff is a social, friendly dog. Medically, Nation has alopecia.

Felicity in care has been aloof with handlers and has escalated to baring teeth and lunging at staff when attempting to interact with her. Felicity has been more social with select staff but remains fearful of her surroundings. Medically, Felicity has pyoderma.

Ruger in care has been deteriorating in care despite best efforts to keep him comfortable, and has escalated to snarling/lunging at a staff member, and continued to do so when being removed from that situation. Ruger is known to be a vocal dog, who is social with select staff members. Medically, Ruger is Overweight.
