I came into the shelter as a stray on 11/15/2025.
Paige is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Paige has demonstrated a arousal concerns and difficulty in the care center despite best efforts to keep her comfortable. She has been reported to kennel fight when exiting the room and displays on-leash reactivity toward people and dogs, with vocalizing, jumping toward handlers, pulling hard through the kennel room, and persistent pacing, whining, and exit-seeking in the behavior office. Paige can be briefly redirected with food but struggles to settle and recover once aroused or frustrated. Medically, Paige is apparently healthy.

Paige arrived as a stray with limited history. She is alert and curious but can become anxious, vocal, and pace in new or high-stimulation situations. Paige enjoys calm interactions and treats, and she prefers to approach people on her own terms. My Ideal Home Paige would thrive in a calm, adult-only home as the only pet. She needs patient adopters who can provide structure, slow introductions, and consistent routines. Busy environments, dog parks, and high-stimulation areas are not recommended. Leash Manners Paige can be reactive on leash, sometimes pulling, vocalizing, or jumping toward people or dogs. She does best with a secure front-clip harness, calm guidance, and high-value treats to help her focus. Short, structured walks and patience are recommended. Overall Health Healthy overall. Paige arrived with minor skin issues, which are improving with treatment. Behavior Determination Level 4 / Experienced Adopters - Paige requires a knowledgeable adopter who can manage anxiety, on-leash reactivity, and fear-based behaviors with consistent, patient training. Other Fun Facts Paige enjoys coming to people on her own terms, responds well to treats, and appreciates predictable routines. She is intelligent, strong-willed, and shows a sweet, curious side when she feels safe.

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 12/07/25 Paige is introduced at the gate to a female helper dog while off leash at the care center. Paige approaches the gate with a hard face and stiff frame, hard barking at the female dog before walking away. She maintains her distance from the gate. 11/17/25 Paige is introduced at the gate to a male helper dog while off leash at the care center. Paige is nervous, reluctant to approach the gate line, running away from the gate and whining. Paige will hard bark at the male dog when she finally approaches the gate, walking away right after. Paige is returned to kennel, concluding the interaction.
Summary (6):: 01/07/26: Paige is laying down on her bed when the handler approaches. She stands up and walks to the front of the kennel where she is leashed easily. Immediately upon leaving the kennel, she barks and lunges towards the other kennels in the room, pushing off the wall at one point. She pulls hard and continues to vocalize through the hallway. While being walked farther away from the shelter, Paige pulls only mildly and spends most of her walk sniffing. Paige sits when asked and takes treats while standing off to the side to allow others to pass on the sidewalk. When passing other dogs, her body stiffens, but her attention is easily refocused with treats. As she nears the shelter again, her attention is more difficult to refocus and she begins panting heavily and vocalizing at other dogs. The handler brings Paige to the play yard where she is clipped to a drag lead and allowed to roam. She initially stands at the side of the yard whining at passing dogs, but the handler is able to get her attention with a ball. She plays fetch, dropping one ball when another is thrown for her. The handler is then able to leash her easily and exit the yard. On the way back inside, Page whines at passing dogs, but engages with a treat scatter on the ground to allow the other dogs to pass. She walks through the building panting, whining, and pulling moderately. She is returned to her kennel safely.
Summary (7):: 01/05/26 (staff reported): Paige is reported to bite and release the squeegee when it passes by her kennel. 12/23/25 (reassessment): Paige is standing at the front of kennel with a neutral frame as handler approaches. She is leashed with ease and immediately out of kennel begins to vocalize, jumps towards other handler in room and pulls hard toward kennels on her way down the kennel room. Paige pulls mildly to the Canine Behavior Office where she is clipped to a drag lead and free to explore the space. Paige pants, whines, paces, and seeks exit throughout her time in the room. She is able to be momentarily refocused with treats. After her session she is returned to kennel safely. 12/22/25 (staff report): It is reported that Paige is kennel fighting when exiting the room. She is also displaying on-leash reactivity towards people and dogs. 11/27/25: Paige is observed to not want to climb the steps up and to the sidewalk, and does not move past the first step. Paige is walked up the ramp and continues her walk with no issue. 11/17 (PG): Paige is lying down in her bed when a handler approaches. She sees the handler and is trembling as they unlock the kennel door. The handler offers her treats and tries coaxing her to the front of the kennel with a soft voice. She slowly stands, stretches, and comes forward, but her body is tense and her tail slightly tucked. Moving slowly, the handler leashes her and brings her to the play yard for the playgroup. After her interaction in the yard is complete, she is re-leashed and walked back to the kennel. Paige is reluctant to return to the kennel but walks in with coaxing.

Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Paige is noted to jump on the handlers often. Teach a default sit and reward calm greetings. Consistent reinforcement and ignoring jumping will help reduce this behavior. Please see the handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Paige noted to growl in her kennel and bare teeth. Use slow, non-threatening approaches and reward calm behavior. Avoid direct eye contact and give her space to reduce stress. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression. Anxiety: During Paige Medical exam she was unable to settle, panting, pacing, vocalizing, seeking exits, moves away from handlers when examined, does not tolerate restraint. Paige is noted to pace, panting, whining and seeking exit during her handling assessment. Use calming techniques, structured routines, and gradual desensitization to restraint and handling. Keep sessions short and positive to build trust. Please see generalized anxiety. On-leash reactivityBarrier frustration: Paige is noted when leaving the kennel to vocalize when passing dogs in the kennel and hard pull towards them.Use secure equipment such as a front-clip harness, maintain distance from other dogs when possible, and reinforce focus on the handler with high-value treats. Incorporating impulse-control exercises like “watch me” and “leave it” can help reduce reactivity and improve leash manners. Please see the handout on On-leash reactivityBarrier frustration.
