Tron

Hello, my name is Tron. My animal id is #244639. I am a male brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.

Pre-Screener Form

Tron is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. Tron arrived at the Care Center via NYPD following multiple bite incidents in his previous home. Both bite incidents were bite and release and did not break skin. Tron's previous owner reports that he allows all contact with familiar people, enjoys being bathed, enjoys chew toys, and understands basic commands. Medically, Tron is apparently healthy.

Meet Tron: Tron is a friendly dog who adores playing and running around. Nothing brings him more happiness than splashing in water or playing with his favorite chew toys. He's learned some great cues like "sit," "go," "eat," and "wait," and he can't wait to learn even more with his new family! He is protective of his loved ones, making him a great companion. Tron has lived with cats and got along great with them, so he's likely to fit in well with multi-pet households. Although he pulls moderately on the leash during walks, he's always excited to explore the world around him-ready for those unscheduled walks together! Tron may have a few accidents if he doesn't get his daily exercise, but he'll make sure that's infrequent with regular walks. And he loves baths-his family can easily give him a scrub! He enjoys Pedigree dry food and can't resist the occasional tasty human food treat. While it's unknown how he'll do on car rides just yet, he's open to all new experiences if it means spending time with his humans.

An intense altercation was occurring close to Tron's kennel. Tron got out of the kennel, barking continuously, the conflict continued. Tron bit and released the hand of one of the individuals. No broken skin or bleeding. November 2025: During a verbal conflict. Tron got out of the kennel and was barking continuously. The conflict continued. Date of assessment:: 1/8/2026

Summary:: Tron was surrendered to the Care Centers following a bite incident that occurred during an argument between two individuals. During the altercation, Tron became highly aroused, broke out of his crate, and charged toward the individuals involved. The owner attempted to intervene by stepping in front of him and was bitten on the hand; the bite did not break skin. Earlier in the month, the owner reported that Tron bit her son. She also mentioned a separate bite incident involving a friend that broke the skin and caused bleeding, though no details were provided regarding the severity of that bite. At intake, Tron was observed growling while in his crate. Due to the multiple reported bite incidents and his behavior of breaking out of the crate to close distance during a conflict, the Behavior Team does not believe Tron is a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.

Summary (7):: 01/08/26: (AM PT2) New handler reapproachs Tron and he is laying on his kuranda bed. He comes forward when handler calls him and a leash is easily placed on him. He walks out of the kennel along with the handler. He is easily guided out the building and relieves himself right away outside. A staff member joins them on their walk. He relieves himself in several places outside. He shakes off and starts to rub his body on a tree. He approaches handler with a looser body and takes some treats. Tron sits for treats. He focuses on dogs from a distance but will redirect attention to handler when called. Tron is returned to the building, he places a small amount of resistance at the end of the hallway, handler calls him forward and he joins handler again walking through the rest of the hall and into the room with no issue. Treats are tossed in kennel and he jumps in with no issue. He remains forward while hanlder locks his kennel 1/5/26 & 1/6/26: ACS reports Tron is not moving easily through transfer door. 1/5/26: Tron is standing at the front of the kennel with a tense body and wide eyes. The handler speaks in a soft tone and Tron begins wagging his tail. The handler tosses treats and Tron is receptive eating them readily. The handler tosses more treats and ends the interaction

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Tron's bite history, we recommend an adult only home. Place with a New Hope Partner: Due to detailed behaviors reported including bite history, we recommend placement with an experienced New Hope Partner to carefully manage Tron's behaviors.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression,Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Tron was noted to growl during his intake and before the bite incidents in the home, he gives clear warnings when he is uncomfortable. It is important to move slowly with Tron, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow Tron to initiate interactions with new people. He should never be forced to greet or to interact if he is not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see hand-out on Fearful and Defensive Aggression Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression: Escalating to biting is a behavior that Tron has rehearsed repeatedly. This behavior is likely to continue as it has become part of Tron's repertoire, and will need careful management to work toward reducing triggers for Tron and reducing the resulting bites. Low-threshold for arousal: Tron quickly becomes over aroused in the presence of conflict especially, barking and escalating to biting. Positive reinforcement, force-free training should be used to teach Tron to remain calm when people and other exciting things are around. He should be rewarded with treats when calm. If he escalates, people should immediately walk away from and separate themselves from Tron. Please see hand-out on Arousal.
