In his previous home, Egypt has a history of redirection and biting when people attempt to interrupt him mounting the resident female dogs. These bites were bite and release that did break skin. Due to the detailed behavior, we recommend an experienced adult-only home.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 7-9 years based on dentition Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned positive History: Owner surrender Subjective: QAR Observed Behavior - petrified in kennel, walks into intake room well, does well for exam and tasks, periodic tail wagging. Is there evidence of suspected cruelty? No Objective: T = P = WNL R = WNL BCS: 4/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean AU, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Adult dentition, moderate tartar -- limited exam performed PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Externally WNL, intact male, 2 scrotal testes MSI: Ambulatory x 4, but periodically holding up RFL paw. [Spay/Neuter Waiver - Age] It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Recheck RF lameness BAR, Normal appetite, no c/s/v/d. Ambulatory x 4, no lameness on RF leg. Severe matting on all other limbs, no lameness or pain on palpation. A: RF lameness resolved Matted fur throughout body P: Plan a full body shave during neuter procedure vs. LVT sedate/groom prior to sending for neuter. No additional medications needed at this time.

Basic Information:: Egypt is a 9 year old SMB. He is seeking a new home due to aggressive tendencies. He has prior experience with adults, children, cats, and dogs.

How is this dog around strangers?: Friendly and outgoing, playful, tolerant. Shy and prefers contact on own terms.

How is this dog around children?: Friendly and outgoing, playful, tolerant

How is this dog around other dogs?: Friendly and outgoing, playful, tolerant. Shy and prefers contact on own terms. Actively avoids and hides at first from unfamiliar off-leash dogs.

How is this dog around cats?: Actively avoids and hides at first.

For a New Family to Know: Egypt is a social and affectionate dog! He can usually be found where the people are. He goes to a groomer and allows for bathing/brushing but not nail trimming. Egypt has escalated during grooming in the past when he is being trimmed near his rear end. Egypt is used to going on walks once or twice per day and pulls very little on the leash. He knows sit and lay down. Egypt loves rolling around in the grass, getting pet, and playing with stuffed toys.

Bite history:: Egypt has a history of redirection and biting when people interrupt his attempts to mount female dogs. 2023, Egypt had bitten the owner before. Egypt was trying to get inside the owner's car and sit in the back seat with the other two resident female dogs. The owner grabbed Egypt, and he bit them. The bite was a quick bite and release. The owner sought medical assistance at CityMD The owner stated that on 8/11 around 7 AM, Egypt was trying to mount both resident female dogs. The owner wanted to separate the female dogs from Egypt, so they picked one up and placed her in a separate bedroom. The owner came back to get the next resident female dog to bring into the bedroom as well. As the owner closed the door behind them, Egypt attempted to enter the room. The owner reached down and grabbed Egypt's lower body to pull him out of the room. Egypt redirected and bit the owner's left hand. The bite was a bite and release. The owner sought medical attention at CityMD.

Summary:: Egypt has a multiple bite history pertaining to redirection and biting when the previous owner attempted to interrupt his attempt to mount the resident female dogs. Due to the multiple bite history, Egypt is not a candidate for a handling assessment at this time.

Summary (7):: 9/5/26: Egypt is at the front of his kennel with a loose body; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. The handler walks Egypt in the yard and he provides mild to no leash tension; he also doesn't react to dogs or people. After relieving himself, Egypt just walks around; he is mainly aloof, as he shows no interest in the handler. Egypt is also briefly walked on the street. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Egypt to his kennel. 09/01/26: Egypt is at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches; he is easily leashed and is taken to the street for his walk. Egypt does not pull during his walk and passes people outside without issue. Egypt is generally aloof throughout his walk, and he stops to relieve himself at points and sniffs spots intermittently. He is brought around the street and walks uneventfully for a while before being brought back inside. Handler is able to easily clip his leash and he returns to kennel without issue. 08/26/26: Egypt is at the center of his kennel as handler approaches, he is leashed while distracted with treats and is taken to the yard for his walk. Outside he stops to sniff spots in the yard and walks into the play yard, relieving himself shortly after entering. He is walked with handler for a while but is generally aloof and does not engage with handler, after a while Egypt is brought back inside. Handler is able to easily clip his leash and he is returned to kennel without issue. 8/20/26: Egypt lies in the back of his kennel with a neutral body and wagging tail; as the handler places their leash on his and applies a little leash pressure, Egypt comes forward and exits the room. The handler brings Egypt to the yard and walks him around the perimeter; he stops by the side where the street is, but the handler applies gentle leash pressure and he continues the walk. The handler brings Egypt into a pen; he sniffs around and then sits down. The handler is able to pet his head briefly. Afterwards, Egypt is returned to his kennel with ease.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to the multiple bite history we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges comments:: Handling Sensitivity: Egypt's previous owner states that he has escalated at the groomers prior when they were shaving near his rear end. He also does not allow nail trimming. Egypt has also escalated to biting when the handler picked his hind end. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Egypt to be more comfortable with this.
